I was using the ck30 to turn a garden, and when using high range first gear, All went well. I decided to use low range forth gear, and it pulled ok but had a lot of transmission noise. Is this normal? To be honest I have not used low range very much before so the noise is new to me. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, Mike

I use low 4 more than any other gear. No whine. I would think that high gear would be hard on it pulling a plow. I mainly only use high gear for fast transport.

Maybe not broken in yet? Fluid level good? Did you do the 50 hour service yet? Using the right tranny fluid?

Well I've only had mine in high maybe once. I got a ck 30 gear. From other tractor experience will tell you they do make more noise in certain gear ranges, mine makes a few little different noises, whining. I suspect its normal but can't hear it to compare with mine. Make sure all fluids are on the full mark. You could maybe go back to dealer and test drive another ck30 and see if it makes same kinda whin.

A couple things come to mind here. FIRST THING is to check your fluids. If they are fine then a little whine is normal when you are in a real low gear range on any machine. However excessive or loud whine could also mean that you are loading it to hard. It which case you need to back off a gear or two. Once you get to know your machine well you will instantly be able to tell the difference between a hard pull whine and the normal whine associated with a low gear and a heavy load. Plowing no matter what size tractor is a heavy load on a tractor. Plows should be pulled no faster then 3.5 miles per hour unless you have a real larg tractor then you might can squezze out 5 MPH. On my ck 20 HST i never try to max out in low range. Instead about half to 3/4 pedal. at 3/4 i start to get a lot of gear whine with a 16" plow. Hopes this help

Just got back out to try it again, because it got dark on me when I was plowing. Noticed that runing in all the low gears the whining is present, puling a load or not. Either way the pitch of the noise does not change. I checked all the fluids and they are right so I guess I will chauk this up to normal gear whining. I just never noticed it on my old ford 850 that my dad has. As for the speeds, @ 2600 rpm low forth will give you 3mph and hight first will give you 4 mph. It seems to plow good in either gear. Quiet impressive for non weighted tires with no loader.

I've never plowed with mine. But, it strikes me that that task is too heavy duty for high range. Seems it would put a lot of strain on the tranny. If it were my tractor, I would only plow in low. Might explain your whine, as mine does not whine in any gear regardless of range....Or it could be nothing and may be it's ok to plow in high range. Perhaps others with more plowing experience with a CK will also chime in here.
