Low front axle fluid BX24

   / Low front axle fluid BX24 #21
After 20 hours of FEL digging and pushing dirt with my BX 24, I also discovered that the front axle lube did not register on the dipstick. I could not get any oil on a piece of straw when I stuck it all the way to the bottom of the housing!

I checked my dealer prep. inspection paperwork, and it showed that the front axle lube had been checked by my dealer. There were no signs of leaks.

When I discussed thie problem with my salesman, he assured me that there was no harm done, and that everything was "A OK". WITHOUT HESITATION, I assured him that he was a bloomin idiot. I advised him that he could replace the tractor, or the front axle assembly. I ended up with a new front axle, tire to tire.

Ok, now I am worried. Just passed 53 hours and NEVER checked the front axle fluid. And I just did the 50 hour service myself! It is night time so I have to wait till morning. However, I have never run the tractor in 4x4 mode. Would this make a difference? Would the problem be less by not using it in 4wd? Thanks.

Mine was low too. I can't remember how low it was, but it wasn't dry or anything that bad. That was maybe 100 hours ago, no problems since.

Just to confirm the trend, mine too was low after a few hours of operation. I topped it off and it hasn't changed since. There are lots of spaces in the front axle assembly for air to be trapped. I think running it a while and heating up the fluid is required to get the air out.
