Thanks- Confident I can get it in my shelter----Two things I failed at- I bought the max 28 and said oh I will never outgrow this tractor, and second I will build a 12-16 storage building and that will be plenty of room.....live and learn.

Does the ROPS fold down any further- I bought a new 2538, traded in the max 28xl and will be taking delivery within 3 weeks- Dealership only had a cab model on hand- just patiently waiting for delivery and wondering if the darn thing will fit in the same location I store the max28. I measured 13'6 from 3 point to bucket; however I never remember the ROPS need to be folded to get it in the door.

With my 2538 and a 12' x 16' barn shed with 6' wide x 7 tall' door, I lower the ROPS to get in and then raise it up to close the door behind... Make sure to just remember to lower it before you drive in, AND lower it before you drive out!!!!! :p It's basically a glove for the tractor, but I can still put a bunch of tools and other stuff I don't need along the sides and near the front. (My grapple adds some length where you might not need to raise the ROPS up once your get inside...)

Why would you raise it after you're inside when you're just going ot have to lower it again to get out? Are you afraid of rolling it on a level floor inside a shed and supposedly moving very slowly a few feet? Currently I have to fold my ROPS to get it under my back deck but I don't raise it again until I'm back outside.

From what I read, the ROPS when folded down sticks out farther than the 3pt arms, making the tractor too long to fit. He has to raise it to gain that space so he can back in far enough to get the door closed...

Just wait till he gets a backhoe on it. LOL
Since I have the 3pt on it now and it's sitting right outside, I just checked and the 3pt sticks out further than the folded ROPS on mine.

I wish I could just leave it down. 12x16' shed with a loft in the front that I need to set the loader/grapple up on top of. It's full front to back once I'm done parking.

That is it exactly. I remind myself by leaving one of the pins on the seat so that I just don't start it and tear a new door out the front as I back it up. :p

I'll need a 40' x 60' shop if I go the backhoe route, but I suspect I will have a crew come in for septic and water line work. Dozer of building pad as well.

On the 2538 the ROPs are a very substantial and tall/wide piece of equipment. Extends past the 3pt arms a little bit, and I am dealing with inches because of the loader/grapple length. I just cannot quite close the barn shed doors when the ROPs are laid down, thus the musical chairs.

I just put this pic in the grapple thread, but it shows how big the ROPS are. Lots of height and width for protection. Look at the pivot point and you can see how the bar sits pretty far out back when lowered...

You should know that the ROPS can only probably help you out if you are using the seat belt to keep you in the seat during any roll over. If you fall to the ground the tractor [ or ROPS ] can crush you. The height of the ROPS is usually enough to try to keep the tractor from going over backwards. I have operated many tractors thru the years that did not have a ROPS. While I am not condoning in any way that you do this, you can remove the ROPS from the tractor or take the top section off. Again, if you do not religiously use the seatbelt, the ROPS is just extra ballast weight on the rear of the tractor, or a place to mount work lights. If you plan on pulling stuff from higher up than your drawbar at reckless speeds out in the woods whilst swilling a barley pop, maybe you should leave the ROPS on..... I have never used a tractor seatbelt, so my ROPS on my 5035 is just eye candy..... but I have 10' roll up doors.....

I can tell you from experience, digging a hole for your own septic tank can nearly pay for the backhoe cost.

Especially if your ground doesn't hold up, falls in, and you need to make a HUGE hole like I did...
