Loud noise coming from Maschio finish mower

I have only used my Maschio finish mower a few hours and a couple of days ago I was cutting some tall grass and didn't see the low stump that was covered up by the grass. The mower went over the stump and when it came off it was making a rather loud clacking sound. It appears to be coming from the gear box but I'm not certain. I know this is a vague description and I really guess it's just a shot in the dark here that someone might have run across this before but I thought I'd ask the question before I go to all the trouble of loading the mower up and taking it into the dealer for service.

Did you raise up the unit and spin the blades by hand? (you may have to detach the drive shaft) You may find the stump the bent the deck housing a little, causing a blade tip to rub against it.

Other than this, how do you like the mower? I have been shopping for a finish mower and have been trying to get opinions on the various makes available.
