Why? Starters are rarely the reason an engine won't crank. Rarely. And there a a lot of ways to diagnose electrical problems without removing starters and bench testing. What makes you think the starter is defective? What other tests have you performed?

Starters are rarely the reason an engine won't crank.

I've no personal experience with Bobcat, but quite a few years ago, my brother had a Suzuki Sidekick and when it wouldn't start, he had done some checking and concluded that the problem was the starter. At that time, I had a pretty well equipped shop building, so I towed his Suzuki to my place with my little Kubota tractor. He was going to go to town and buy a new starter, but we decided to pull the old one first so he could take it with him to find a new one. Well, we pulled that starter off the car, cleaned it up good, opened it up to see if we could identify the problem, and when we cleaned it up, then bench tested it, it checked out just fine. We put it back on the car and that fixed it.

G'day Mate and welcome to TBN from Downunder.

Enjoy the site... and bench testing your starter. :)

That is why I used the word "rarely". Yes I know starters can be defective. I have owned a defective starter or two. BUT it is NOT usually the reason your vehicle won't crank. It IS usually something else. Battery, Battery terminals, Ground terminal. Battery cables (yes battery cables are OFTEN the cause). Starter relay, and lastly Starter Solenoid, which nowadays is considered a part of the starter. So YES, starters fail, But I still believe it is rare considering all the other reasons so named.

starters get "sticky" for various reasons...a couple of judicial taps with a hammer is usually the first thing tried by a lot of both pro and shade tree mechanics if something else is not obvious...
