Regarding 2wd and using the front end loader...I've found that if I lift a bucket of heavy material with my 2wd John Deere and the tractor is not on firm hard ground, I can't back up. Both rear tires just spin because of all the weight in the bucket out in front of the tractor. Same with my Kubota when it is in 2wd...but at least with it I engage 4wd and then it backs up out of the pile no problem.

How much rear ballast do you have on that 2020?

gee, I have 2 pre 4 Kubota's some eye candy for you... I'd sell them for the right price.... Bought them both new and they get the best of care too... Both are M9000's one is the 12x12 with a 2 speed pto and the other is the 8x8. Both FWA and neither have ever done any tillage. Both have loaders and both have 2 buckets each with SSQA and 3 remotes out back.

Just had the open station tuned up, ran the overhead, spray tested the injectors and dynoed it. Dyno showed 94 pto at rated rpm. Cab tractor is going in shortly for the same massage.

My local Kubota dealer lusts for them all the time...lol

I have never been impressed with Kubota loaders lift capacity.
Interesting comment as I can loft the rear ends on both of my M9's with the loaders, Not that I make a habit out of that but both will do it no issue and I run cast centers on the rears of both. Never felt there was a lack of loader capacity on either of mine. Maybe the newer ones are weaker, don't know, but then I don't want any T4 final engines anyway.

This is my 2009 Kubota M6040. It's in pristine condition and has only 290 hours. I have no intention of selling. Just a while back - email from Kubota dealer. Offered $32,500 - as is. That's almost exactly what I paid thirteen years ago. Wonder what THEY were going to sell it for.

No - I am not trying to irritate anybody. Just an example of what is happening locally.

You need to peruse Tractor House to see what they are bringing. I was amazed myself. Pre 4 tractors of any brand are getting to be like fine wine. No more made so what there is, there is and that's it. The slimmer the pickings get, the more well cared for units are bringing. Mine are like an investment now.

I have no doubt that bevel gear set ups are not as strong as comparable planetary set ups. But at the same time they are quite well engineered in regard to how and where the stresses are distributed. My tractor has a fairly weak design and does not have as much support on the upper aspect of the assembly as beefier Kubotas.

Having said that, I have mightily abused mine, in both an ignorant fashion, and as years went by, in a more calculated fashion and they have held up well. The main oil seal tends to take the brunt of abuse and one of mine began to leak a few years ago. I ran it that way for a year, being careful to keep it out of water and deep mud. When I had the time I removed the whole assembly which involves nothing more than removing 4 bolts and disconnecting the steering rod. Carried it to the dealer who replaced all the seals for about $200. No issues since. And the calculated abuse continues.

Same here with my little L4400. There is little doubt that the loader capacity exceeds the limits of the tractor itself. The sawmill I lifted exceeded the published capacity of the loader and was a good two feet or more in front of the bucket pins. The loader handled the load fine. The tractor did not. As mentioned, more rear ballast would have helped that aspect. The point being, I see no issues with this tractor’s loader capacity at all. If it had significantly more real loader capacity the primary result would be a broken tractor.

New tractors are generally in short supply and thus used ones have become pricey as well.

Deere's pre-emissions tractors in the 60-70 HP range would be certain 5000 series machines up until 2013, and before that, the smaller members of the 2x40/2x50/2x55 series as they introduced MFWD on the 40 series units in this HP range. I will say that MFWD was pretty uncommon until roughly the late 1990s, so it would be pretty uncommon to find a 40/50/55 series unit with it and it wasn't even that common on the first 5x00 units.
You would be correct that finding a 2x40 w/mfwd would be uncommon as it wasn't an option. However, maybe you are referring to your general area but finding a 2x50/55 w/mfwd is just as easy as finding one without.

MFWD although not a common option was offered on JD 40 series utility tractors after serial # 350,000 for tractors built for sales in N America & earlier for tractors built for sale in European countries. MFWD hadn't become the rage back in the late 70's. But crops got harvested & animals got fed just the same. I know I was employed by a JD dealer from '66-'87.

HI Jim. Seems to be the 2240 that got the mfwd. Found many images in searching. Nothing for 2440, 2640's that I'm more familiar with. And yes I should have said for the NA markets and I knew somebody would call me out on the Euro's.

The 2240 was indeed available with MFWD on the later units.
