Ok, first post on here.. Well im looking for a compact size tractor with a loader. I own 5 acres of woods and have a log home in them. I recently bought an outside wood furnace and would like to have a tractor to clean up and haul wood around, along with other chores.

I also have access to about 200 acres surrounding me (the neighbors like me!!) I dont want a overly large tractor because i dont wanna make logging trails on my friendly neighbors land, and id like to be able to park it in the garage. Im typically partial to John deere, but not saying it has to be green!!
what do you guys think would be good?? ohhh forgot to mention id like a 4x4!

A 30-35HP tractor should fit your needs, you'll have to choose the color. Think about what you might want to do in the future as well before you decide for sure.

well for the future, possibly a snow blade, or blower.. other than that your basic hauling and 3 pt. options. a brush hog.. and be able to move logs about 24 in in dia. Im not moving these logs for time or speed, just need to be capable. Im not looking to break the bank. just get the best bang for my buck.

Looks to me as if the loader capacity is the deciding factor. Choose your lift capacity and see what the different colors offer. There are many ways to shop for a tractor!

Sounds kinda like what we were shopping for ...

We ended up going with a JD 3038e w/305 loader. It doesn't come with all the bells & whistles of the higher priced models, but has been a nice work horse for us without busting the budget. 37 HP engine w/ 30 HP PTO & roughly a 60" footprint. We got ours for less than 18K which included loader & windshieldwasher loaded R4's.

If you go with a 3000E machine, my advice (20/20 hindsight) is that if you think you might like additional hydraulics (beyond the FEL), get the rear scv kit installed as part of the package being financed, it is an $800 add-on with a 1.5 hour installation if you add it later. You would also probably want to add an installed drawbar, as that isn't included as standard either. You can get a parking kit for the FEL that unloads everything except the masts for in the neighborhood of $500 (if memory serves...) if you can't stand the idea of a non-removable FEL.

yes the loader capacity would be the deciding factor.. Im use to a skid loader with about 2000#s of lift.. I know thats asking to much for a smaller tractor. so Im not a 100 % sure whats common.

Want something capable, not real big, and a good value, look at the Kioti CK20 or Bobcat CT122.

If it has to be JD, then the 2520 is the size I'd recommend. For about the same money, you could go Kioti CK30 or similar in bobcat, and these are tougher tractors.

bota B-series are nice and not too big, as are the 1500 series Massey's.

There are several other brands that something similar that would work too.

you need a 30 to 40hp tractor.as for loader lift, the loader on that size tractor will lift 800 to 1200lbs.to get 2000lb loader lift youd need to step up to a 50hp tractor.

Taking into consideration the added 200 acres, I would bump up into the 40-50 HP like the Grand L or equivalent in another color, John Deere, Kioti, MF etc.

I use our 5030 in our woods and haven't caused any damage even with repeated trips over the same area.

It may seem a little big on the lot, but tractors seem to shrink when you start using them.

What? A Kioti DK40 has a lift rating of 2761lbs. I believe that there are many 40hp tractors that will match or better the 2000lb request. ;)
