Hey guys,

Im new here. I have operated some tractors but never owned one. Anyway at my house I need to do some grading (under .5 acre) I have fill dirt and top soil being brought in to fill big holes and decrease the slope of the land. I will be grading alot and moving piles of fill dirt/top soil. I want a smaller tractor preferably 4x4 (with turf tires would be nice). I was looking around and saw some old Satoh Beavers and the Mitsubishi 370 which to me is the perfect size. I am trying to keep the purchase on the cheap side because after this "job" i probably wont use the tractor anymore. unless something comes up or maybe push snow. My budget is 5k max. Can you guys recommend some smaller tractors (older I dont care) within my budget?

Thanks,

For a one-time use grading <20k sq. ft. I'd either rent a tractor or hire it out altogether.

I thought about that going to home depot and renting one for $250 bucks but my problem is I have been having the fill dirt brought in sparatically and I would keep having to rent the tractor return it rent it return it. I thought if I could just buy a older smaller one for 5k i would be good but your probably right maybe I could get it all brought in and do a one time rental and knock it all out.

HI. Welcome.
You might want to consider a used Kubota BX with FEL. You get 4x4 and retain the resale value.
I used a drag harrow to level my yard when I tilled it up and reseeded. My BX mows my yard and has pushed a lot of snow, trees, rocks and carried landscaping materials. You may find you don't want to part with it after your projects are done.

You can add more attachments later to the 3ph or a snow blower. I have a 5ft tiller and 4ft rear blade to round out the usefulness of the tractor.

There are a lot of very usable smaller older 4wd tractors that would fit under the $5k budget. I just looked on tractor house at the 1210 & 1510 Fords and there are a few that fit that criteria. There are other brands out there as well. I happen to have had a great experience with my Ford (built by Shibaura) so I am biased (had it for 22 years and never really fixed anything on it except the front axle seals) other than a couple of batteries and front tires. You should be able to find something very reasonable.

Exactly what i was looking for. Those models are nice small tractors that are within my budget that will get the job done I need done. Any more brands/models off the top of your head?

Thanks,

I'll let some others chime in. I would think there would be some orange and green guys out there with suggestions. Certainly Mahindra, Kioti, Branson, Bobcat will do well but they may too new to our market to be in that price range. I know the White 2-30 if you find it in a FWA version was a solid little tractor just not very popular.

I had a satoh 550 tractor for awhile. It was two wheel drive which ultimately led to trading it in but I found the tractor to be a robust build with good capability for its size(23hp if I recall).
They can be found well within your budget. I wouldn't worry about resale value. Anything in that price range has already lost most of the value it is going to lose. No reason to expect a big dent in the resale value unless it is damaged or you put big hours on it.
