Would like to stay in the 8000 to 12000 range for commercial ZTM. Really have no preference on brand just want the most reliable ZTM out there.

Want no more then 60 inch deck.

Considering these so far but open to suggestions.

Click link for model.

I like my ZD326. They have made several inprovements over the ZD321 I had before it. The new deck really throws the grass. I have yet to have it bog down in any kind of grass. I put mulching blades on mine and it does a super job that way.

Of the models you listed, I would recommend the Toro. If you have a Hustler dealer near you, I would also look at the Hustler Super Z.

Look at the Scag Turf Tiger. Has one of the very best reputations among lawn care professionals. Heavy duty everything.

Let us know what you get.

We bought a ZD321 this summer and love it! It does a great job, my wife says it's the best the yard has ever looked.

My opinion is that there is no such thing as the best. It all depends on what you desire. You can only make a good decision if you have experiences with a lot of Zero-turn mowers. Just testing them is not enough. If you set up some standards as to what you want, that will weed out a lot of them. I rode/cut with Dixie Choppers for about 18 years, and could fix anything on the machine. and sometimes I did it on the customers property. They don't push or pull very well. I used both the 42 in, and the 60 in. On one of my Choppers, I had a vacuum system, It worked too good, as you had to dump or bag the leaves about every 15 min. I am not saying it is the best, but it is one good cutting machine, The Kohler engines hold up very well. The only problem that I had here in Florida, was the sand would eat the blades and deck as the bld tip velocity was high. I also used the Gator blades for the leaves. Try one if you get the chance. Look for the thickness of the deck, check brand name on the hyd motors, talk to the service people. If you as a home owner purchase a commercial unit, it should last a long time. I would sometimes put about 6 to 8 hours a day on mine.

ZD21 here also. No problems in 3 years of use - approx. 350 hrs. It uses slightly over a half gallon of fuel @ WOT per hour - very efficient. The only drawback I will note is how heavy these machines are - they are not the best for all places because of that.

After spending several months looking around, I went with Scag. Nothing else really compared to them.

More importantly then what brand you buy, is to make sure you have a good dealer close by. Of the top names, it's pretty tough to say which is actually better. The pros all use about six different brands. Look around to see what they are using in your area. Go to the dealers. Look at the machines and don't do anythng until you've seen all of them.

Husquavarna is a residential mower. Not in the same leage as a commercial zero turn.

I like the Kawasaki engines. Mine is water cooled, and that was a big factor in my decision. It also has an engine oil cooler and a hydraulic oil cooler. The blades are very easy to take off and either sharpen or change. The front tires are solid, and the seat is the most comfortable of all the mowers I looked at.

www.lawnsite.com has allot of information from the pros. Be careful asking questions over there. Some guys are very helpful, others are more then just a little impressed with themselves. If you just search through the threads there, you'll find out everything that you want to know about all the brands.

Good luck,
Eddie

I went to the kubota dealer today and fell in love with ZD331. Some more research on the site and after talking to a few pro's I am sold on the diesel. Hopefully by the end of December it will be bought. Any advice on accessories I should be looking at, like maybe the mulching kit?

I thought you might like them:cool:

There a lot of great mowers out there but the sound of a water cooled diesel puring behind you is very relaxing.

I have the gator mulching blades on my cheap little swisher, and they seem do do a nice job.:D:D

some people are very impressed with the 64" snow blade that you can get for it. It is so freaking heavy it has great traction:D:D:D

If you don't already have snow moving equipment you might want to take a look at it.:cool:

I agree the diesel ZTR's, of about any brand, are the best option. The only problem is that they will all push our OP's price range. I have used Grasshopper, Scag, Gravely and John Deere and they all have been good machines. Of them, I liked the John Deere the best, mainly because it cut the best (it was a 757). Unfortunately, as JD likes to do with a successful product--they change it. The newer generation of JD ZTR's are not as good. I have heard through the grapevine that JD is updating the line (they might have done this already) and a machine in your size should easily come in your price range. The Scag and Grasshopper were fine machines, and very similar. One brand you should absolutely check out is the Gravely. Dealers are not common, but these are high-end, tough machines. They might push your price range, but come in varying cut widths and have a diesel option. They also have a hydraulic deck lift, a nifty feature found on some--but not all--ZTR's. My only problem with them is the deck was fitted in the back and the Gravely has IFS and would occasionally scalp the grass if the terrain was very irregular or the tire pressures not exact. Otherwise it cut fast and well. I have heard they corrected this problem.
