If the shredder on your Bush Hog is anything like the shredder on my Woods, it pulls the brush through so fast, it's almost scary!

Yes, it will rip it right out of your hands. I cought see it spraining a wrist of something. I kind of throw it in, never holding on. It works really good though.

I've read several posts about shredders yanking stuff out of the operator's hands - could definitely be scary stuff! I like to run a disk over the area I've cleared and it does a good enough job of turning the leftover twigs and old leaves under. I figure anything too big for the chipper is firewood for somebody and anything too small for the chipper will get disked into the ground and covered with grass seed. Who knows, I might even find a home for a bunch of wood chips...I can see my wife liking them for putting around stuff in the yard.

Well, you do want to let go as soon as it's in the chute. You do need a stick (something the chipper can digest if you drop it in) to use a pusher.

Chippers don't always do well with the small branches (.5" to 1" (or so)). These shredders eat that stuff right up!
I probably use my shredder as much, or more, then the chipper. As I'd written previously...this is for a yard clean up every few months. My property is about 50% wooded and the properties around me are wooded, so I get a lot of small stuff downed.

I can see where a chipper / shredder would be great for that. I've got nearly 13 acres (mostly one large hill) that has 30+ years of intended growth I'm slowly cleaning up and trying to convert some to pasture. Hopefully I'll have it in shape before I retire. :)

Just to update everyone on the chipper search. It looks like I'll be buying a Wallenstein bx42 on Friday! It'll be a couple weeks after that before I can use it but really looking forward to it. Thanks everyone!

I got the bx42 hooked up to my ck27hst. This thing is really going to save a lot of time! I did kill it hard once, had a cedar tree go in and a Y branch choked it. I really didn't think it'd fit but tried anyway. Beyond that, zero issues and never did more than slow down a little on full 4" oak and hickory.
