Good advice cford36. My question for you would be how much will you be using the backhoe? I went down this road a couple of years ago thinking about buying a backhoe for my tractor. I also priced a new Massey SCUT with backhoe here in Richmond, VA for $ 16,800. Almost bought that also to go along with my current tractor. I was looking at about $9,000 to buy one for my tractor. I was so close to pulling the trigger that I had a loan lined up with my credit union. After quite a bit of consulting with good friends and my neighbor who owns tons of equipment I changed my mind. I ended up renting a mini-ex for a week and did everything on my property I needed to digging wise (That was the best vacation week I ever took!). Also, instead of spending that money on the backhoe I traded in my 5' tiller for a 6' tiller bought a grapple bucket and a log splitter. I use those 3 items all the time and only spent $ 6,000. The only reason I bring this up is you could take that little bit of extra money the backhoe will cost you and upgrade one size up to a bigger tractor and more 3 pt implements that might get used more. Don't get me wrong, I still want a backhoe some kind of bad but after careful consideration and thinking about actual needs more than my wants I purchased the other items. Like cford36 said, a tractor is a long term investment. Take your time and get what you want. We are just giving opinions.
Side Note: I love my grapple bucket!! Don't know how I lived without it. Worth every penny.
