As I wrote in another thread, my truck was stolen last week. I have been looking at trucks to replace mine. The New ones a very pricey and I am not very thrilled about buying used. However, I drove an '08 Nissan Titan today that was interesting. It had less than 18,000 miles on it and showed no signs of abuse. It has everything I need (and more). I don't have a price yet, but I know the sales Mgr. and feel that I will get a fair price. My question(s) is: Does anyone have any experience and/or comments about this model? Good or Bad.

Norm

PS
He told me it was owned by a widow woman who only drove it to church!! :)

I have a 08 and its a beast. I have had 1 3/4 ton truck that was gas and 6 gas 1/2 tons and it will flat out work any of them. I have owned 4 diesels also and I will not even compare them to it.

I have just over 33,000 miles on mine and not a single issue. It had a recall on the fuel sending unit in the tank and thats it. Its by far the best truck I have owned in the snow. Mine has diff lockers front and rear. The front was added by the dealer, the rear is factory with the off road package.

Now for the bad. It rides kind of rough, more like a 3/4 ton. It may be just mine because it came with 35" tires and a 2" lift the dealer installed. It gets 15 mpg on the highway and averages around 14 mpg. It will get 12 mpg pulling my 7,000# boat so thats a plus versus the other 1/2 ton gas trucks I have had, they usually get 8 mpg pulling any load.

Just make sure you get the BIG TOW PACKAGE. It will have the big boy mirrors, not the car like ones. Without it the tow rating is about 7,000# and with it you get 9,500#.

I will post some good pics in a few minutes. 1/2 or more the miles mine has is with this boat behind it.

Here are the other ones. Had to fire up my laptop. I love the factory sprayed in bed liner, factory back up camera, nav system, Rockford Fosgate stereo with sub woofer, all the little storage bins, the bed rail restraint system, ect. Only thing I would change is to make the seater heaters allow you to just have heat on your back. Sometimes that feels good when its sore.

Chris,
Thanks for the reply. The one I am looking at does not have the nav sys or back up camera. It is 2wd with the 5.6 ltr. engine. The bed liner did not look like it was sprayed but looked like a "drop-in"; it was a factory (Nissan) liner. My trailer and CT225 w/ loader and BB probably weighs 4500#/5000#, so I think I am safe there. I really like the truck and if the price is right, I will buy it.

I bought a year end 09 F-150 quad cab that I love. The sync system is way cool and the truck get great gas milage and has plenty of power. If you get one on the lot as opposed to ordering one I find you get a better deal.

If you get it you will love it. I could not live without 4x4, but that's me. Sounds like this one is pretty plain Jane so make sure you are getting a really good price. Mine is loaded to the gills.

Chris,
Looks like I'm buying the Titan. The price even with TTL came in under Blue Book Trade-in. Now, I'm just waiting for the Insurance Co. to pay my claim. They said it would be 2/3 weeks about 11 days ago.

Good deal. I just did a oil change on mine before dinner. Its now got 33,750 trouble free miles of which a good 15,000 miles or so is pulling a trailer from 7,000# to 9,000#. May be taking it on a 500 mile trip here in the next few weeks to pick up a 9,500# boat if I can put the deal together.

FYI, a 285/70-17 tire is 33"

You beat me to the punch on that one. No 35's, dude. That would be a 315/70/R17. You would also need more than a 2in lift to get 35's on a Titan anyway. Just sayin.:)

Yes, you guys are right. It came with 33's on it and I have 33's on my F-350 but in a 18" wheel. The wife's F-250 has 35's on 17" wheels.

I got the numbers all mixed up in my head. Too many trucks.

Did they find your truck or is it still missing? Usually the insurers wait 30 days if it's still missing just in case it turns up and can be fixed.

Crazyal,
They haven't found it yet. I don't expect it to be found. It is either in Mexico or parted out in five different shops by now. I am more pissed about the contents(tools and personal items).

I hope it all works out for you. Either way its a pain in the butt and there is no way you will win or even break even financially. Nothing I hate nothing more than a thief. I had a house robbed back in college 20 some odd years ago and since that day I carry a gun. Nothing has happened since but I will not hesitate to use it. Off my rant now.

You never did say what year, make, and model truck you had before? Hope this new one works out for you. I have been real happy with mine. Interesting thing is I only know of 3 in my area of 50,000 or so but I am in Fresno on business and they are all over out here and I saw a bunch in San Diego last week. They seem very regional which makes since. I would say back in the area of Indiana I am from 70% of the trucks are Fords.

Too many trucks? I didn't think that was possible. Its like too much fun or a car too fast (I stole that from a song).

Chris,
I had an '05 Chevy 1500. So, I guess you could that the Titan will be an upgrade. Around S.E. Louisiana, Nissans are not uncommon but they are nowhere near as common as Chevys or Fords. I think that Chevys have a slight edge.

Chris,
I pulled the trigger on the '08 Titan. I still haven't settled with the insurance co. but they stopped the rental payments so I decided to just buy the truck outright and deal with the ins. co. at my leisure without the pressure to settle. We are close and State Fram has always been fair. I have been with them for 40+ years and have been satisfied with them on the few claims I have made.
I am happy with the truck. It has more bells and whistles than I thought (back up sensors, electronic mirror, homelink, etc.). It is bigger than my Silverado. I need to get re-acclaimated to driving a big-un after driving the rental (Corolla) for almost a month. Also, I think it will guzzle gas. Do you know if they have a performance chip that will increase mpg?

Chris, that is a sharp Titan you have. I run the Hankooks too. Did yours start to make a little road noise around 15,000 miles? Mine were super quite at first, then they just all the sudden developed a slight roar.

One of the things I wish Ford would adopt on their Super-Duty's with the extended cab is the Nissan's fully opening rear doors. If Ford has made that upgrade since 1999, please let me know.
