mahindra 5035
Hi, I'm new here. Looking hard at the 5035. Will use it for picking up cut mesquite in Texas with a grapple then later plowing, spraying and a little mowing. Really need two machines ( big and small) but trying to get by for now with one medium.

Would appreciate any advice.

Hst vs shuttle, is hst worth extra money. read much already posted, good stuff. will listen to any advice.

number one reason I started looking at Mahindra is they are only dealer with in 50 miles.

Thanks in advance

Howdy. I have a 5035 HST and an older John Deere PST, which they call a reverser transmission. The PST is a fine transmission, makes changing direction just a flick of a lever just under the steering wheel...and off you go. My problem with the PST setup in the JD is that the reverse speed is 30% faster than the forward speed... I use the tractor for snowblowing with a rear blower in the winter. I need a slow speed going in reverse so I do not overload the blower in certain conditions. When I am going forward, faster is better. With the HST, I can go whatever speed I want going forward and reverse. The 5035 is a pretty big tractor, and the HST helps me to manuver in close spots..like inside the barn or out in the woods.. Even moving dirt, it is nice to be able to idle into a pile, then reverse out and go dump at any speed I want. Where in the PST, I would have to shift to a road gear to go dump. You can't go wrong either way, there is no right transmission for everyone, it's kind of a blond/bruenette/red head thing... The PST and HST designs have been around for awhile now, and I have not heard anything major wrong with them so far. The Mahindra does not seem to have a pressure relief like the New Hollands/Kabota/etc., so it does not quit on you going up a hill. No seat switch either.... :)

My 5035 is a manual transmission model (shuttle?) which I purchased in April of '11. Only 55 hours on her but she is the perfect choice for me. I looked at Kubota's and John Deere at my local dealers, but they couldn't touch the Mahindra's specs for the same money.

I use her mainly for driveway maintenance (processed gravel), excavation, brush/tree (small) removal, and with the addition of an 84" wide "Long" (brand) plow blade with independent hydraulics (leaves the rear takeoffs free) and electric/hydraulic blade angle switch on the new joystick, I am ready for old man winter to do his worse! (will try to remember to take a few pics as she stands now and post soon)
I also had the rear tires filled with beet juice for traction and safety. What a difference in ride and stability!

I did a lot of research before purchasing my 5035. It is a great tractor, solid (look at those front axles next time you visit your dealer, the other brands look fragile in comparison) and the best bang for the buck.

Good luck with your decision and welcome to the forum.

You won't go wrong with a 5035 with any of the transmissions. Since you are going to be plowing in the future, I would go with the shuttle, but that may just be me. Again you won't go wrong with any of them. Be sure to get it with both of the rear remotes for future hydraulic uses. ;)

Mine's a shuttle and I don't have any issues operating. Been doing the "clutch" thing on many machines for 41 years or so, though.

Drive them all, get what you can operate the best and suits your needs.

Concur on getting two additional rear remotes. Wish I had done it as part of the deal. I did have the rear tires filled and got a grill guard all for no extra charge.

HST is for comfort, Gear is for power. I have multiple tractors so I own gear on my farm tractor (JD 5410) and HST on my compact (JD 3120). If you plan on doing farming I would lean toward the gear. If your looking for more of a all around work tractor I'd go HST. Both have their ups and downs. You can't beat the comfort of a HST, but I find more power in a gear. Has all to do with what you're going to do.

Good point on the front guard Bascom. I bought one (was not offered as a freebie in my deal) but keep putting off installing it. Had a close call and almost damaged the hood a while ago so will install the guard soon. I have two hydraulic connectors in my back of my 5035. Not sure if that means I have one or two remotes. Didn't know enough about them at the time of purchase, but until I can afford a backhoe, no need. Mine was a leftover and got a great price on her, so wasn't thinking of what else I could add at a bargain price. Live and learn I guess.

My tractor is a manual/gear type. My knees can still handle the clutch and the savings over the HST is substantial. I am 55 and may regret the gear choice when I hit later middle age, but for now, she is very powerful and I don't mind the clutch work.

One thing I learned today... can't put her in top gear and go flying down the road anymore with the tires filled.... never made it to 4th as the fenders started shaking as speed came up. Was smooth and fast before the ballast. Trade off for traction and safety I guess, but worth it for sure.

Of course, I spend a small fortune on ballast and a top notch skid steer plow blade, and it hits a record high of 60 degrees today here in CT!! Oh well, the blade works great for smoothing my driveway, and winter is far from over.

Cheers

You have 1 rear remote with the 2 outlets. If you have any grading implements, it is nice to have either a hydraulic top link or a hydraulic side link. OR get the 2nd rear remote and have both the hydraulic top link and side link so that you would then have a complete "TnT" set.

Thanks for the info Mtnviewranch. Much appreciated. Until I get a backhoe, not much worry there, but will I need another remote to run one or will the one I have do the trick??

Thanks again.

My hoe only need the one set of remotes. There is a hook lock next to the lever to lock it into "A" position for constant flow to the hoe. The 11gpm pump provides plenty of umpf for the hoe, especially for a slow operator like me.... :) I usually don't even rev it up most of the time...
