Looked at a L5240 yesterday

I am shopping for a L5240 right now too, and have gotten a couple prices that are right at $35K +/- $100 for the following setup:

L5240
4WD
Hydrostatic Transmission
ROPS
R1 Tires - FRONT 9.5 x 16 STEEL BIAS CA/REAR 14.9 x 26 STEEL BIAS
(2) Remotes (1) Double acting, (1) Float Detent
FEL with quick attach
72 QA HD bucket with tooth bar
42 QA Pallet Forks
Rear Work Light Kit
Block Heater
Rim Guard in Rears
Landpride BB2572 Box blade


One is local, the other is from out of state. The out of state price included delivery. Right now I am leaning toward my local dealership. My local dealer suspected the 60 months at 0% too, but noted that he won't know for sure until April 1.

Your looking at a pretty fine tractor. One thing I would suggest is to move up to the HR25 series instead of the BB25 series box blade for the hydraulic rippers though - be able to put those remotes to work! Just one of those lazy factor things to not have to adjust them. Otherwise I think it looks pretty good:thumbsup:

Thanks Martian! I have those remotes earmarked for top and tilt on the box blade. I have been talking with Brian at FitRite about the cylinders. So I don't have them in the tractor package to be quoted. I am going to take a look at the upgrade to the HR series to though. Maybe I should get the third remote....

OK, I'll check it out. Do you need to add extra weight to to get the blade to cut in? Is it for loader ballast, or other?

Mine cuts OK, but the weight is only about 660 or so and mine feels a little more stable with about 1000 or so in my hills, so essentially for ballast.

The HR might be heavier, so it may not be an issue for you. I didn't get the HR as I only have one set of rear remotes; bought mine used.

I have some RR track I am going to put on mine.

I have loaded rear tires.

Triple R - Can you not add remotes after the fact on you Kubota? Seems a couple extra would be nice, but that's just a little monday morning quarterback for ya:laughing: RR ties would definitely keep that on the ground though. Had to move a couple some years back, not fun.

Crazyangel - Look at the heaviest duty box blade it will handle. You want something that will put up to the tasks, be a nice ballast for the rear and hold your tractor down for safe loader operation, and it would be nice for the rippers to be hydraulic, and that usually comes with the heavier duty you get.

Yeah, but I think it will be pretty costly and of course then the cost of a new BB. Since I have the RR track I can weld on and paint orange, I can save the money for something else and just get off my tractor a little more often.

If I need to move much dirt, we just use both tractors, one with the rippers down and one with a 10' drag scraper.

Seems like we have more stuff we could spend money on than money.

Yeah, that whole retrospect has got me wondering more than once. I bought the 5030 used from my dealer and I have kicked myself a couple of times for not putting an extra set in with the deal. Thing is I about wore him out with "throwing things in" like a full service with valve adjustment and cleanup on all AC components including the evaporator in the roof, discount on a LP RCR2672...still shoulda gone for the remotes.

Lesson learned and I made sure I got two when we bought the M8540.

I just received a quote from another dealer and he cautioned me on waiting to buy (plan is first of May) because Kubota is planning a price increase. This was the first i heard of this but if it's true i will buy sooner to avoid paying extra.

I asked that question of a Barlow's a few weeks ago, and was told they know of no planned price increases. News may have come out since then though. They also knew that I am planning to buy before May. So I do not know if that influenced the answer at all.

You can count on parts and equipment price increases early every spring, from pretty much every AG manufacturer. They tend to roll them out at the beginning of buying season.

I have a similar situation, and plan to do just as you suggested. To me worth a little extra leg work WRT to storage rather than taking the risk of paying more.
