Long 460 won't turn??

have a long 460 that will not turn left. it is starting to not trun right as good either. any suggetions on where to start to trouble shoot this problem.

Which steering system do you have?

Power assist or hydrostatic?

Then we can start to trouble shoot the problem.

i'm not a tractor guy so i will describe it. it has a hyd. cylinder on the left side of the engine that attaches to the steering componants. it also has hyd. lines that run to a box under the steering wheel just above the trans area. it also has a resevor on the top left side of the engine.

Okay, I think you have hydrostatic.

First, pull one hose off the cyn. and turn the wheel in the other direction to bottom out the cyn. Does oil stop flowing or does it continue. If it continues after the cyn. is bottomed out you have a bad cyn. This is the cheapest thing to happen.

If oil stops flowing, you will need to rebuild or get a new steering box under the steering wheel.

did as you sugested and it's not leaking through the cylinder. i then checked for presure once it quit turning by loosening the presure side and there wasn't any presure. so my next question is where do i find parts?

Brad, go one more step for me.

Remove the pressure line from the pump. Just turn the tractor over, don't let it start. Do you have a good amount of oil flow?

OK Tim,

Finally got back to the tractor. here is what i have done.

started the tractor and turned it until it quit, killed the tractor and loosened the bolts on the outlet side of pump. cranked the tractor over and it did pump fluid. repeated the process for the other direction. so at this point i am assuming the box is bad.
