Oil & Fuel Long 460 UTB oil question?

I just purchased a used 1978-79 or long 460 utb. I am replacing all the filters and checking and or changing the fluids. There is a yellow canister on the left side of the engine if you are in the seat. It is mounted towards the front of the engine and it has a black line that says oil level, about half way up the cylinder. I removed the lid and there is a small filter mounted in the bottom of it and ther is no oil in it. I am not sure what this is or what type of oil goes in it. I have ordered the reprinted versions of the service and parts manuals but I don't have them yet and I would like to take care of this so that I can drive the tractor down to my barn so I can make other repairs that I know how to do. A small reservoir with a filter in it kind of sounds like a power steering fluid reservoir. Are there any hoses going to and from the housing and if so where do they go?

It looks like you are right, there are 2 lines coming off of the bottom of the cylinder. 1 of the lines goes to what I think is the power steering cylinder on the drivers seat left near the front tire.The other line goes to what looks to be a hydrualic pump mounted on the right side by the front tire. If this is a hydraulic tank for the power steering do you know what type of hydraulic fluid it uses. Boy I can not wait until my service manual shows up. There is so much I want to do to this tractor but I am just not sure what is what. I was able to find an american made filters cross reference list. thanks for the help.
