Help me out here.
I am looking at 3pt log splitters that utilize the hydraulic system of the tractor. Most manuals I see want to connect to the rear remotes, and just hold or bungee the lever open and control the splitter from the splitter. This sounds like it would be continuosly dead-heading the pump if the splitter is not operating? Am I way off base?
Thanks

The fluid in an open center system is flowing all the time.

Dead heading is where the fluid has no place to go, and something burst, splits, etc.

You still have a relief valve in the first valve inline.

The remote and the log splitter each have a relief.

If you use the remote and bungee the valve to on, the fluid just flows through the remote to the log splitter valve and does work.

Should you remove the log splitter, un-bungee the lever, and the fluid just flows through the remote to3pt and tank.

Thanks JJ,
So I should be OK running the splitter in that manner.

Just make sure the valve on the splitter is open center and you will be fine.

Yes , that is just one way that some log splitter owners run their splitter. Even if the bungee comes loose, the lever goes to neutral because it is spring centered.

Other people run a hose to the back off the PB on the FEL valve, and when not using the log splitter, they jumper the hose so the hyd's work like usual.

You might set all the relief the same, or a bit higher so the FEL relief will be the PRV for the hyd system.
