Is there any way to tell if I have a two speed pump on my log splitter. No name on the pump, it's about 30 yrs old, newer 9 hp motor, not home made. I am using it more and it is under powered and a slow cycle time. So I am wondering if a new pump would help? Thanks

with twospeed pumps there are two pumps in one. With a single there are usually three parts, two ends and the pump mechanizm in the middle with the in and out side ports. With a two speed there will be 5 parts as there will be a partition between the other smaller pump. If it is pulling the engine down, it is most likely a single stage and if it is too slow for you, it takes hp to get speed and push power.

Sounds like a single stage pump. With 9hp id replace it with a 16gpm 2 stage pump.

Thanks for the info, I'll look at the plates on the pump tomorrow, and look into a 16 gpm pump
