hello all. i recently purchased a used 22 ton log splitter with a haldex 11 gpm pump. after sitting in the garage i noticed a small puddle starting under the pump area. upon further investigation i found that the intake tube is leaking! the intake is a barb-type nipple that sticks out of the pump in which you slide on the tube and hose clamp. it is leaking where this nipple meets the pump housing. i thought it may be threaded in and i could just tighten it, but i was wrong. it spins freely in the housing. how do i fix this? please don't tell me i need to buy a new pump. thanks in advance...

thanks for the response. it is a press fit as far as i can tell. i thought it may be threaded at first but when i turned it, it just kept going round. i then found that the entire tube can be pulled out or pushed further in. any suggestions on how to fix this? can i JB Weld it or use silicone? or can i take the pump somewhere to have it "repressed"? thanks

You can possibly carefully "resize" the pressfit end with a small tail pipe expander and then press it back in with some loctite sealant.

Another option might be JB weld or loctite.

It seems like most two-stage pumps are going this route for cost savings.

Last option might be to totally dismantle the pump and braze the inlet tube in. Would have to be careful an not warp any of the surfaces from the heat.

I received this message from a Haldex engineer.

If you can, please pull that tube completely out of the pump. Clean up the port in the pump and around the tube. Then apply
Loctite (Blue) to the fitting and port and reassemble. Let it dry and set up. We use this technique during assembly at our plant.

Didn't work very well. I would use loctite flange sealer or green loctite. I believe the green loctite is used for press fit bearings.

You are telling everyone, that what they use at the factory doesn't work.

That is odd that you would say that. These are the people that put the pumps together. You would think they would know what works best. Why would you do it any different?

The Green Loctite is actually made as a thread locker, and tubes up to 1/2 in. Tube on the suction side of the 11 GPM pump is 3 /4 in

Blue is for tubes up to 3/4, and is a thread locker.

Does the OP's pump leak? I have seen these leak quite often. If the OP's pump leaks, then what they use at the factory surely didn't work for him.
What would work best would be to cut threads and use NPT or ORB. I know what works best, they know what costs less.

JJ,
did Haldex specify a part number for the blue loctite or just say "Blue" Loctite? Reason I am asking is that Loctite has a vast assortment of products and I believe there are several that are "Blue", "Red", "Green", etc.

Example: 569 is there thread sealant and it is red. 271 is thread locker and is also red.

No number, but I can ask again. The blue I looked up mentioned up to 3/4 in tube, so I added that in my post.

This is the one that sounds relative, especially about seal and lock up to 3/4 in . This is used before assembly

Loctite Threadlocker Blue 242 from Loctite Adhesives

I have emailed another request to Haldex.

The Green 290 that someone mentioned is for after assembly.

This one also might be relevant, and before assembly, and is good up to 1 in.
