OK troops- my SIL was splitting wood today with his fathers old MTD splitter- the wedge is fixed to the beam and there is a plate on the end of the cylinder. It seems as if this plate has been welded several times over the years and met it's match against a forked piece of elm. Any ideas where to get a replacement- sort of having one made up at a local shop? I don't have a model number, which I know would be helpful. Thanks in advance

Did the weld break where welded to the cylinder push rod?
A picture would help.
My splitter has a fixed wedge, and the cylinder end just fits into a pipe-like socket on the bush plate. A pin holds it in the socket.
Maybe it's something you can fashion.

A picture will tell a thousand words and you will get some ideas on how to permantely fix it from breaking again.
