I see one person reccomended SAE 85W-140, and one 80W-90. I had just bought a bottle of Lucas 85W-140 API GL-5 preping for the weekend. I actually had a bottle of the 80W-90 that I use for my deck gearbox.

Is it that there isn't much difference between SAE 85W-140, and 80W-90,...?? Is one a better match to the manufacturers reccomended AGMA 5EP Amoco Permagear EP220?

Very confusing.

The 80W/90 would be the closest match.

Approximate equivelant's:

ISO 220 = AGMA 5 = SAE 50 Engine oil = SAE 90 Gear oil.

Well heck, I already had a bottle of Kubota branded 80W-90 that I used for my deck. I can just use that. Although it is 2 years old. Does this stuff go bad (draw damp maybe)??

As long as the top was still on the container it should be fine. Most lubricant manufacturers set the shelf life around 5 years for oil products.
