Local crackdown on "rolling coal"

This thread reminds me of why I don't like being on the roads.....everyone is angry about something and everything. Many times they themselves are doing something that either distracts others or themselves. So much to be distracted by and many people angry. Just not a pleasant experience any more. :confused3:

Agreed!

I have a feeling even more man-babies are going to be throwing temper-tantrums in the near future....as things don't go their way.
Rolling coal is literally stomping (on the gas), making a lot of noise and creating a scene. That's pretty much the textbook definition of a temper tantrum.

"What do you mean my hero is a con or that I should be driving a more efficient car? Why, I'll show you!! Take that bike rider! Take that Prius driver! :hissyfit:" Stomp....

Yep, and it gets a bit scary on the interstate, in a construction zone, heavy traffic, while this drama is going on. Sometimes I just take a exit and sit for a few minutes before I get on again. Maybe now the folks around me are a bit more mature..........maybe not. :cloud9:

Re: Local crackdown on "rolling coal"

If you are 25' behind a vehicle going 60MPH, you are an accident waiting to happen.
A 2 second following distance at 60MPH is 176 feet, your "bikes can be heard a minimum of 25' behind a car on the highway" puts you well past that, past "he's getting a little close, is he going to open the door and climb in?" and well into "there is no way you can stop before rear ending that car" territory.

I didn't want to comment on the motorcycle discussion in this thread, but had to point out a glaring difference and defend Tom a little.

What you said is true probably everywhere in the country besides Boston. I drive these roads each day and can tell you, 25ft is an opening, not spacing. 176 ft is an empty highway! I've driven all across the East Coast and experienced most bad traffic areas, and can tell you Boston drivers are the worst. Nobody else is nearly as rude or aggressive as the typical Boston driver. But then again, Tom is riding a bike around here, so maybe he's a little tapped too.

Are people using that spacing while going 60MPH? I can see that spacing at under 45MPH, but not so much as 60MPH or higher.

You haven’t driven in Massachusetts. I used to be traveling home coming through Vermont, everyone would be traveling along at about the same speed then I’d see a car coming up on my bumper fast, often with their highbeams on. I’d think “that’s either a state trooper or a Massachusetts driver; must be the latter because I’m not going that fast.” At the last second they’d veer out around me, and inevitably would have Massachusetts plates. Years ago I commented on that state’s driver though, and somebody referred me to an insurance site which indicated they have the best driving records in the country.

Nice.

You have to act a little different if your hauling commercial than if you're the local turd kicker. You're right. Being stupid. You would think it would cross his mind. Haha. I worked with a fella in a shop years ago. He had 2 nice diesel trucks he actually cut a hole in the bed for a stack. Everyone told him he was a dummy.

I've also seen a few trucks with a hole cut in the hood with what looks like a funnel from the Titanic sticking out. No my truck, not my payment. But ridiculous looking in my opinion. And what if you want to trade that truck some day? I don't see many dealers taking that in unless everything that's been done is undone and the hood replaced.

Hmmm..... I can see that I'm sure missing a lot. Smoking trucks - loud bikes - angry/upset folks. I guess being hunkered down out here isn't really that bad.

Some older Gentleman Neighbor came in here this week in a 63, 2 Door Hard Top Pontiac, Black, Pipes sticking out the side. Nice bit of Cam. He was going DEAD SLOW leaving, and I half expected, he was awaiting clearance for take off, and was going to punch it. Should have taken a picture, but I am going to see him.

Man-babies.
Rolling coal to disturb other road users.
Making loud noises to disturb other road users.

Think about it, that's what manhood has become.

How much worse can it get, when man-babies are providing the example how to be..... to todays kids?
What do you think the world will be like....... when we get old?

Maybe we're already there.

A rudderless ship.

Diesels are unique in the fact if over fuel them, it just comes out the exhaust as black smoke, you gain power up to a certain point and after that, its just wasted fuel. You over fuel a gas engine, it will run really bad.

EXACTLY. None of my diesels have any emissions hardware and my pickup lost all it's emissions hardware long ago and none of them smoke excessively, even when working hard. It's just a macho thing with grown kids. Should be fined.

Like the Hardley thing... 'Loud pipes save lives'... Bullsnot. Loud pipes tee off voters and then they enact noise ordinances and the loud pipes garner a fine. Fine with me. Hardley owners especially 'think' the louder the bike is the faster it goes. Just the opposite is true but then I've never seen a fast street Hardley, Seen plenty of obnoxious ones though

I have this Triumph R3 bagger I own that will blow the fenders of any Hardley on the street and is quiet as a mouse. Own a Hardley as well, low rider. Stock exhaust, I hate noise.

Sad, how many young boys grow up pretty much without a father figure. And society seems to think that's alright.

But if you are going to fine, then why not end all such stupid behavior? Pulls, dragstrips, races? Or make them all comply to strict environmental standards.

People setting fire to oil refineries should be fined too. Must have grown up without a father figure.

ehh...because pulls are only a very few people driving 300 feet, or dragging a 1/4 mile, not 100's of thousands of people driving 15,000 miles a year.

Then again, I think that hobby farmers and most TBN users who put less than 300 hours a year on tractor shouldn't need Tier IV.
What gets me is the EPA carb restrictions (non-adjustability) on 2 cycle engines that burn maybe a gallon of gas a year. "Can't have that 1 gallon burning too rich!! Might polute"
So, for most people, this means tossing the weed trimmer in the garbage because it's cheaper to buy a new one (Now that's saving the environment!!)

Speaking of saving the environment, how about the DEF jugs you buy, a plastic jug in a cardboard box. I'd say most of them get tossed in the landfill as well.

They say that in a polluted city, the exhaust coming out of a Tier 4 Final is cleaner than the air going in.

In your example, the "C" in CARB would stand for Common Sense.....instead of California, which is the exact opposite of common sense.....
