My only option (other than buying) is to rent a uhaul open utility trailer. It is a 6x10 dual axle with small sides and (link . . . U-Haul Equipment Guide )

The floor is the ridged aluminum (pretty light stuff) and I don't know about the fram underneath.

Uhaul claim it is rated at 4400lbs total with cargo capacity of 1900lbs.

I put the tractor at 1660 . . 2300ish with loader.

What do you think? Is uhaul under-rating it . . .or should I think about it only without the loader attached . . . or is there always a problem balancing the weight on a 6x10?? In other words . . should I forget it?

The Uhaul car carrier's inner track width is 42inches . . so I don't think that will work.

Thanks.

Speaking as U-Haul Dealer....

According to my spec sheet, the cargo capacity of one of these trailers is 1915. I will say that because U-Haul manufacturers their own trailers, they are build heavy enough to sustain rental abuse (and believe me, they see a great deal of customer abuse). I would NOT however recommend towing a trailer over capacity...it just isn't safe. While I may think that they do under rate the equipment to a certain extent, I wouldn't test it. If you caused damage to the trailer or were involved in an accident with an overloaded trialer, you would be held liable for all damages....

However, they are made to do these kind of things. They are marketed to move lawn & garden equipment, 4 wheelers, golf carts, etc. A couple of things to keep in mind though....
1. The trailer rentals are based on availablilty. These trailers are not always available, and when they are available, it may be for a very limited time only. Speaking from the U-Haul business side...more rentals means more revenue. If they can rent the trialer out several times a day, THEY WILL! It is purely the rental business.
2. Ramps.....do you have something heavy enough to support the tail end of the trialer while loading and support the tractor. The front end is heavy, especially with a loader.
3. Securing....there are D rings in the bed. Just make sure that there is enought room (clearance) to safely get in there and get the chain/boomer secured.
4. U-Haul will not allow you to rent a Auto Transport (full car tailer) to tow a tractor (if a dealer does...they are breaking policy).

I would personally be looking at a local trader magazine to see if anyone has a used trialer for sale at a reasonable price....and not rely on someone else. When I need to move my tractor or something else, I have my own trailers (and I AM a U-Haul dealer and have access to these things.....)

Thanks Rob. Yes . .I'm feeling a little uncertain about it. If I did go down that road, I would go without the loader. My own (proper) trailer would be much better . . but I would only need to transport maybe twice a year. . and the $ is hard to justify. I should look at a towing service as well . . but at 80km each way (~50 miles) I would think that would add up fast.

My other need is a motorcycle trailer . .and have considered an enclosed version. If I could fit the tractor in a 7x12 tandem enclosed . . and the floor could support that type of weight . .maybe I could kill two birds . . . but I don't know if that is too broad a requirement.

Hi,

I have a 2305 and had a 6.5' x 12' tandem trailer built for it and honestly with the loader on it, that trailer is too small. I have a small balast box on my 2305 and it hangs off the trailer a few inches.

I am looking to trade my 2305 for a 2320 any day now and have been looking into a bigger trailer.

I would not risk putting a 2320 on a 10' trailer. I agree on looking for a used 14' or 16' trailer to safely handle your needs. Thats my game plan currently.

Take care...

Sorry, forget to mention that the 2320 is about 6" longer than the 2305 so it would really be an issue...

Maybe I'm missing something...

I have a Carry-All 6'x10' pressure-treated floorboard trailer. It is single axle. No brakes. Has mesh ramps. The axle is rated at 3500lbs.

I put my 2320 with loader on it a couple of weeks ago to 'test' the size - and with the ramps up against the 3-pt. hitch, I can 'fit' the tractor. The loader rests on the triangular-shaped tongue. The trailer and tow vehicle sit level, so it appears the weight is appropriately placed relative to the axle - visually, the tongue-weight looks right.

Now, I didn't drive it anywhere. But I think I can safely make it around town at speeds under 35mph. I'd never take it on the highway b/c of the lack of brakes. My tow vehicle is an SUV rated at 4500lbs.

If the axles are rated for it, why wouldn't a u-haul work? Doesn't it have a surge-brake? At least for around-town and not at 55mph?

That is interesting. I appreciate the info. Maybe i will have another look at things. . . yes . .it does have brakes. It's a dual axle so still won't know about the weight distribution issue until I tried it. But it sounds like highway use is out, by the sounds of the advice.

I'm just offering a word of caution that's all. You wouldn't want to be driving with the bucket resting on the V shape part of the tongue. That is there to allow you safe turning. You really shouldnt be passing the front rail or front part of your bed with the loader.

I agree it would look okay just sitting up there, but I wouldnt drive with it like that.

I'm going to try and find a picture of mine on the trailer ...

I see you're in SW ONT (as am I). Do you have any recommendations for trailer resellers (used or new)?

And back on uhaul . . .what would you think of the 2320 alone? ie. 1660lbs and just over 9 feet in length?

I'd also love to hear of someone that used a 10' or 12' enclosed tandem trailer to transport a tractor. A dealer recommended doubling up the floor and claimed a 3000lb door/ramp. . but I don't know.

MX,
I'd recommend getting a 8x16 (or maybe 7x16?) car trailer if you really want to go enclosed. Most of the 12' trailers are lighter duty, I'd be surprised if they'd be rated for something like a tractor. It'd still be useable for your bikes, and you'd appreciate the extra room. I had a 6x12 for my motorcycles and even with just the bikes in there, I woulda liked some extra room. A 12' trailer is really small.
