recently purchased a Westendorf t-111 loader for my jd 790 tractor. I ordered a 66 inch skid steer mount bucket. I am having second thoughts about it being too large for my tractor. Any and all opinions are welcome T

In a quick internet search, the jd list bucket size is 53”. That is for a 419 loader.
The answer to your question is ‘it depends’. If you dislike those answers as much as I do, I feel the pain.
However it is the answer! At 30 engine HP, you can handle a larger bucket, assuming that your tractor has the flow rate to handle the load. But if working in materials that are by nature heavy, you may not be able to go with a full bucket load.
Since you do not tell us what your intended task are, hopefully width is not an issue.
Also you do want enough width to cover the tread width of your tractor. I like to base these off rear tread as it is often a bit wider than the front.

From those listed chores, your heaviest material will be the soil. Wet soil can be heavy. You should be fine. Biggest thing if new to loaders is to keep the bucket as low as possible. Tipping is a potential problem when the bucket is raised.

Additional axle weight has minimal effect for counteracting loader weight.
3pt. ballast is the way to go.

THANX,to all responses. Added 3pt weight box with ballast also liquid in tires approx 200 lbs per tire. Concerns on front axle (mfwd) strength.All your input is most welcome.

Skid steer buckets in my experience tend to be heavy, Personally I'd look for a lighter bucket

Andy, I agree with your comment, but it does not apply to a SSQA mount bucket from Westendorf.
OP only stated he had the skid steer style mount.

are you sure? having loaded tires has made a huge difference on my Kioti.

OP only stated he had the skid steer style mount.

Attacthment is skid steer standard quick mount, bad habit i have is i run a 262 cat skid steer during the day. Located a tomahawk 60 inch bucket for 499.oo. Also fel is all westendorf equiptment. Sorry for spelling typing is a run tough one for me.

My 790 came with a 61 inch bucket with a 300 deere loader.

Tractor had the power to push it, but deere had to shim the hyd. Relief so I could lift a full bucket of dirt.
The 790/3005 tractors don't have much for hydraulic 'power'.

Zero front axle issues in 13 years of use.... light, heavy, occasional abuse
