Yep, January '74. I'll probably always remember that because I flew to San Diego out of Love Field the day they were moving to DFW and knew I'd be coming back into the new airport. My flight back left San Diego around midnight, got back to Dallas before daylight, and there was a heavy fog. Now I don't know much about the flight patterns, but I've never been on an airplane that made so many turns. When we started descending, we'd bank left awhile, then right, then left, then right, back and forth, and I began to think our pilot wasn't going to be able to find that new airport.
Incidentally, one of my early beats on the police department was far north Dallas; lots of vacant fields, horse pastures, etc. and I could hardly believe the new road they started building across the north edge of my beat; just couldn't believe they'd ever need a road that wide. They call it LBJ Freeway (I-635).
