I've had my LK3054 for about a month and have gotten around to looking at why the tach doesn't work. (I knew it didn't work when I bought the tractor.) I'm hoping that it is just the cable, but I need some help making sure that is it. I disconnected the cable from the back of the dash, cranked the motor, and got no movement on the end of the cable. I then diconnected the cable from the motor and did have movement on the little cable sticking up from the motor. So, I am now assuming the cable is bad and I just need a new one.

IF it is the cable, where can I order one online? THe nearest dealer is about an hour away.

THanks for the help!

Very likely just the cable. Sounds like it is.
You should be able to pull the cable out of the housing to see where/if the cable is broken.
A good place to get parts is Jon Depratt at Depratt Equipment. Phone 620-429-2602.
Got a tachometer cable for my DK 35 from this dealer, was mailed to my front door quickly.

Thanks Vence. I just wanted to hear it from someone with some experience. I'll give Jon a call Monday.

Time for some follow up.... I have another thread going about the new dealer in town who I ended up ordering a tach cable from... so anyway...

I got a new tach cable yesterday and it's too short... wrong part.. so I'm taking it back today. but, while I had it connected to the tachometer, i connected a drill to the other end to see if my tachometer would even work. well, at the full speed of the drill, the tachometer needle would barly move... it did move a little, but very little...

I have no idea on what a normal drill's rpm's might be. Is the engine rpm so much faster than a hand drill rpm that i couldn't get it to register on the tachometer or is my tach broke as well?

Thanks for the help!

Is the drill going the right direction?
The drill should say it's max speed on it somewhere.
It also takes a little push to make sure it is seated in the socket on the tach end.
I can usually make them jump just by spinning it with my fingers, I'm sure your drill will move it.
Like vince said, just pull the whole cable (center) out from the engine end.
It should be square on one end and "reverse" slotted on the other end.

i tried the drill on both directions...one direction (forward i think) didn't move the needle at all... the other direction (reverse i think) made the needle jump just a little bit...but never enough to hit the first mark on the tach. i'll have to look harder at the drill to see if i can find the rpms on it or in the book somewhere...

maybe i didn't have it pushed in good enough.. i didn't really try to push it in too much. i'll try again over the weekend. maybe my tach is just toast.

what you discribed is exactly what my cable looks like except, mine is in two pieces. it broke off about 3 inches from the "reverse" slotted end.

The tach may be bad, but it sounds more to me like you didn't have the cable pushed in far enough when you used the drill.

ok... i got my correct tach cable installed last night. the tach seems to be working now... kinda... the needle seems to be moving really slow as it makes it's way to the rpm's the engine is sitting at. i can raise the rpm's and the needle will creep to the next spot then stay there. the needle also stay's where it is when i drop the rpm's back down. if i bang on the dash with my fist, the needle drops back down where it belongs. there is no telling how long the tractor has been running without the tack cable hooked up so i'm guessing the tach is just sticking bacuse it hasn't been used in so long. i considered shooting where the tack cable goes in with some wd-40 or something to see if it will move beter. any thoughts on this one? thanks again for all of the help.
