Howdy,
I see you would like to connect 1 unit to your panel when the power is out.
If you use your head, and not try to run everything it once, the service panel interlock will probably be your best easiest, cheapest choice.
Interlock for your panel, dual breakers for your generator, 10 wire, a generator receptacle, your generator cord set.
You can browse through these vendors (I have never used them, I do not know if they are any good, but the web site shows all the ones which they have interlock kits for)
check Home Depot first if you have a mainline service panel (GE, Square D)
National Ram Electronics
and / or
GenInterlock
The dual pole breaker for your generator hook-up can be any size. Standard dual 30amp for 8000w generators or dual 50amp for 10,000w generators, up to whatever size you can find and fit in your panel.
Or, if your panel is a oddball (not a mainline(popular brand)) you could look at replacing your whole service panel.
A True Transfer switch can work also. BUT, the $$$$ gets a little pricey. Not just for the equipment, but because you have a electrician involved, you have your utility involved, and permits.
As others have stated, there is also the breakout generator panel. They work, but you are limited to what is attached. They might only have room for 6 breakers.
You can look over a thread

To answer your question?
I happen to have a interlock at one location, the generlink at one location, and a larger psp transconnect unit at the main farm distribution.
Ask away, there is a lot of knowledge here.
also, keep the linemen alive:thumbsup:
