I've been looking for an AC/DC stick welder lately. I ran across one that a gentleman may want to get rid of, but I don't know if it's a good welder for what I want to do or what a fair offer would be.

It's an old tombstone Lincoln IdealArc 250. He said there were leads included, but didn't mention how long they were. I want a welder to do basic farm repairs and fabrication, probably 1/4"- 5/16" steel doing repairs most of the time, but occasionally some 3/8" and maybe even as light as 3/16"stuff.

I've seen values run anywhere from $75 to up over $1,000. He told me it works, and sent me a picture. If it does turn out to have a problem, are parts available to repair these, and are they usually expensive? Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have one just like it and love it. You probably will never need any parts because they're bullet proof, not like todays welders with all the fancy buttons and circuit boards. Paid $300 for mine. Try and get the seller to let you weld with it and look the leads over close, new leads are expensive. You can still download the manuals off of Lincoln's website.

Arguably one of the best SMAW machines ever made. Very nice arc for GTAW as well.

I got the sister to it. They're a good welder. Just have a com-a-long along to load it with, 'cause they are heavy. bjr
