I did search... For hours... Most recommended lightweight grapple manufacturers seem to have gone out of business since those posts (Gator et al). I did find most say a lightweight grapple works fine for general work. I just need one to pick up the occasional downed tree and transfer brush to the burn pile. I would like the option to pop smaller trees up if needed. Many suggest a 48" or so and that sounds right to me. Not running a business and did not win the lottery so we are talking weekend usage on 42 acres with best bang for the buck. Oh - and I "assume" the KL451 loader is a skid steer attachment(?) So, does that mean any grapple for skid steer will work?

Sorry for asking again as I read this subject gets beat to death - but I did try searching first.

TIA,
Dan

My vote is the Wildkat 48" econo grapple. when I bought mine it was under 700 bucks-think they are around a grand now. Use mine in exact manner you describe as your need

Yes, your KL451 is SSQA compatible. Keep in mind most grapples for skid steers are heavy built, and heavy in weight. and pretty heavy in price.

I purchased a Titan 48" and have been extremely happy with its performance and construction. I personally wouldn't hesitate to purchase another based on my initial purchase FWIW.

Check the auctions, good deals can sometimes be had. You'll find the grapple will likely stay on your tractor almost all the time, its that useful.

I have the EA grapple on a DK40SEH. I haven't used anything else, so no comparison - must say it has been FANTASTIC! I picked it based on (1) light weight = more lift capacity (2) the dual arms are handy with odd-sized stuff (like loading garbage from a renovation project into the dump truck (3) the teeth on the upper touches the teeth on the lower (helps when being lazy - turns into a fun game of can I pick up that little pice of cardboard) :)

After looking at all these suggestions I think the Titan grapple might be the best option for me. They also pair it with pallet forks as a package deal that looks very reasonable - and free shipping. After using my first FEL machine I can see where pallet forks would come in real handy. Thanks all for your comments and suggestions.

I would have to say that two cylinders is an advantage when trying to pick up irregular objects (say a stump with a big root mass.) Single cylinder Wildkat 48 does not work as well. If you move up to the Wildkat E series, you get two cylinders for not that much more in cot.

X2. Also paid sub-700. Great tool. Tough and has held up well.

I picked up a tomahawk 66" single lid at auction for $550 plus fuel to go pick it up I had a but $600 and half a day driving into it. Did the auction on line so I didn't have to drive down unless I got one. Haven had much chance to use it since we have had snow since I picked it up
