No, they're not plastic. The lenses are made of silica that is bonded with ash and limestone at about 1700 degrees. The housing is made of bauxite which is run through a hot bath of caustic soda and lime and then combined with carbon and electricity.

I've had 3 of them on my tractor for over a year, and they work great.

I guess some people like to pay more for stuff, makes them think they are getting a better product.

Those are the ones I have also, except their square, 27watts is plenty for me, they really light up the night, I also have the lower wattage like "oldpilgrim's" for the back of my machine.
