I realize it's not tractor related...but I have an old Clark Carloader forklift ('48). When the forks are raised and/or the mast is tilted, it's either an all on or all off proposition. At work we had a newer Daewoo lift that would allow moderation of the lift and mast tilt.

Not being an expert in hydraulic valves...is there a type of valve that allows slow flow for cylinder movement vs. an "all or nothing" type of movement.

If you try and "feather" the valve handle, it bogs the engine and is not happy about lifting and/or tilting. The modern lifts I have experience allow the slow, moderated lift and/or tilt.

Need to be educated on valves. Appreciate the help.

If the engine bogs, the valve needs to be replaced with one with built-in load-checks

the machining on the lands of the spools are not sychronized with the housings casted in the valve housing.......many old valve banks did not have any load check valves so they machinined the spools with different timing to not allow the load to drop prematurley during shifting, pressure would build up on the raise side before the return side could allow oil to go back to the tank port

Thanks wdchyd for the insight ! Hate to give up on the old girl, but now need better control than the machine provides. Will take a look at a new valve. Any suggestions of a supplier ? Northern Tool comes to mind...
