Lets See Your DIY Tow Behind Landplane

Fits in the 3 point receiver hitch. Built from what I had on hand at the time. The scarifier section was an afterthought that only sorta works.

Also later I discovered that it was too much weight for the hitch so I added a chain from the top of the hitch to the back of the plane and use a chain tension-er to take some of the forces off of the socket. The top link of the 3 point is used to adjust the angle so I can Dig, Grade, or smooth with it.

Crude and ugly, but it works for me when I need it.

I got 1/4 mile hilly and twisty gravel driveway. Been using box blade with adjustable gauge wheels for 20+ years. I probably don't understand something, but don't see any advantage of using all those staff over my way. Anyone care to explain?

The longer the plane is, the smoother and more level the surface. Just like when working with wood, the longer the plane, the straighter the surface.

What is plane? Distance between tractor wheels and the blade?

I would describe it as the distance between the tractor wheels and the farthest thing back that touches tge earth, Ideally, the blade(s) would be in the middle of that distance - to shave off the humps and fill in the valleys. A rear blade or box blade with gauge wheels is a good example.

A Pony Grader is a really good example.

What is plane?

I would call the "plane" as the fixed and rigid smoothing device. A blade can follow dips just as the tractor tires or guide wheels. The further apart those wheels are how dips affect the grading surface gets less and less. A land plane or land leveler spreads the area of the weldment much larger than a box blade does. Each item has it's own purpose where it works best.

Is your's a three point like attachment? I can't see how you tow it.

No it fits in the 3 Pt hitch attachment that I already had. I didn't have the material to make the grader fit the 3pt directly.

It goes in where the ball is mounted and I run a chain with tension-er over the upper ball. Sorry I don't have any photos of it all set up and working.

I also have a 2 gang disc plow that mounts the same way.
