Sorta/maybe. I put it on as an experiment. There are a pair of stop pins at the bottom of the side plates. I can hang the tail gate behind the pins or flip it up and over and let it hang in front of the pins. When behind it acts like a drag but will hold lighter stuff like sod while letting the gravel pass through/under. Like shown here - look close and you can see the left stop pin

With the tail gate behind the pins I can use it as a crude blade if I back into a pile of sod accumulated while cutting the road edge.

I didn't design it to do that I just found out I could after it was built.

If I flip the tail gate over so it is in front of the pins it will hold material in the box like a box blade and I can move material along the road instead of it just passing through like a land plane does. It doesn't come close to replacing a box blade but it comes in handy doing road repair work.

So I'd guess didn't like the rear blade movement as you operated the implement forward.

For a short driveway, a HD wood skid will work wonders compared to not having nothing. Changing the weight distribution and hook-up point can tailor how aggressive it digs.

?? I don't understand what you are trying to say ??

A landscape rake with every other tooth removed also works fairly well.

I think alot of the design on these land planes comes down to what material the owner has to make it with.

I see 3 blade angle options. I'm sure each has its merit. Not sure what those are ...
Most I see have 2 cutting edges (blades)
Some blades both angle the same way.
Some blades angle opposite direction to each other
Some blades are square to the side boards.
Each will cut and distribute the spoils differently.

Speaking of sideboards I see varying sideboard height and varying width of the skid plates.
One thing I would consider if building my own would be a serrated leading edge
My LP weighed about 550 pounds. This was not enough weight spread out over 14" of cutting edge and 12' of sideboard runners.
I ended adding a 55 gal barrel for water... potential added weight 500 pounds.

You tube is full of homemade road grading attachments and drags

Driveway through others property to our 15 acres is 1/2 mile long, was gravel for years but then had paved with fine asphalt millings and this is ideal for either - been using for about 20 years - mine is by Leinhart but apparently they are out of business now:

BTW, I had graded road for years using just blade and it was difficult to get right. Was at one of my fav tractor/implement dealers and saw one of these almost 20 years ago, said to my dealer - "What in the world is that?" He said it was made to grade & maintain gravel driveways. "You can rent it to try it." I rented a brand new one and immediately called him - "I ain't bringing it back! I'm bringing you a check!"

A one-hour grade on my 1/2 mile road once a month and the road is like glass! Love it!

Modeled this from one my friend built probably 30 years ago that I borrowed when I was building my hoiuse and 20 years later when I was building my equipment shed.

I built mine from galvanised stock and added the ability to pick up the plane with the FEL, which is very helpful - from moving it about the yard, transporting it while the box blade is already attached to the 3PL, to doing a quick job without having to change implements.
I also made it longer than store-bought units to help achieve a flatter finish.

I made this copied from an image on the interweb, thinking it would work great. Now I think the manufactured ones would work better. They are just so expensive now.
