We recently inherited a small lenar 4x4 tractor. I beleive it to be around a 2005 model, but i am not sure, and it is not even in the same state that I am in for me to look at much. It has been sitting for about 2 years in a field and where it was parked in running/working condition. It has 115 hours on the meter. We don't even have a key for it, but had to get it moved. I personally have not seen the tractor in about a year, but the person moving it for me, said he was able to jump start it without the key as it is a diesel. He said however none of the hydraulics would work. He said the front loader bucket would not lift and the 3pt would not as well. He said the PTO did work. I guess he reved the engie a little higher and was able to get the hydraulics to lift real slow enough to move the tractor.

I know very little about tractors. I own a Ford 801, but don't know alot about it. I am assuming the first place to look at fixing the hydraulics would be fluid? Maybe chaning the fluid. However we don't even know where the fluid goes into the tractor at or what kind to use. There is a dip stick right in front of the seat which looks like hydraulic fluid, but it is at the proper level and appears fairly clean and clear. I am mechanically inclided but know very little about tractors. Is there anywhere to get a service manual for this? Or can anyone help me with where to check fluid level and other places for me to start? I will be going down there in a couple week, and hope to get it going. I also have someone there onsite that can look at things for me now.

Thanks,
Static

Just a stab. Not familiar with Lenar but some Chinese tractors have pto powered hydro pumps and some have engine driven pumps. If the pto is running have the guy on site engage it and look for a speed selector. For example my Jinma has 540RPM/Neutral/1000RPM. It may have been left in Neutral and the drag on the clutch disc was just enough to power it when the engine is revved up.

If it has a engine driven pump have him take apart all quick connects and reconnect them with the engine off. Do not do this with the engine running or it will trash the pump in 1 second flat. Many times the Chinese QC are a problem area. Other than that it could be dirty fluid or water contamination, filter clogged, bad pump, or a bad pump to engine coupling.

Could be way off base but how cold was the tractor and how long did he let it warm up before trying it? As lots of people will attest the hydraulics may take a while to function in the cold, especially @idle.

Good point about letting it warm up. Got to remember the KISS theory.

First thought is fluid. sitting in the open, water could have seeped in around the shifters, condensation, etc and contaminated the fluid. I don't think Lenar came out 2ith a 204 until they started using DongFeng tractors, so the pump is engine mounted and the hydraulic resevoir is combined with the transmission, meaning you will want to change the fluid using trans/hydraulic tractor fluid should at least meet JD303 spec. the water and oil makes a mud like substance that the pump cannot pump through the filter screen. on that tractor the filter is probably in a long tube shaped container under the tractor, with a tube running to the pump. while you have the trans empty (about 6 gallons or so, use a big bucket). I would remove and clean the fine mesh screen in this tube and reinstall before filling with new oil. If that does not do it, if the hydraulics still do not operate (when warmed up) than a new pump may be in order. We don't import 20HP tractors, but may have the pump if you need one, I will try to match one up for you, let me know.

Thanks everyone. Bluechip are you saying you are a dealer where i might be able to get parts? Your post seems very helpfull. I have not done anything with the tractor at this point, but I will try your advice. You are correct it doesn't have a pump on the PTO. I will looking for the filter. Is the fine mesh screen you are refering to the same thing as the filter or are you saying I should clean the screen and also replace the filter? Any pointers on where to find the drain plug and also do I refill using the dip stick right in front of the seat. I don't know much about tractors to start with and this one seems a fair amount different than my Ford 801. The dip stick in front of the seat appear to have a proper amount of a clear/yellowish oily fluid. Should I try to start it again first now that it is warmer. Last time was durring close to freezing temps.

Thanks again for all the advice.

I would change the oil first. The strainer filter is in a tube located under the tractor and is remote mounted compaired to the pump. JD or C-IH hydrolic fluid will work. My LE304 had all its chinese fluids replaced with IH fluid when dealor prep'd. Case dealor was down the street.

I own a Lenar tractor. the hyd. did give me trouble; It was the pump. the seal in the front of the pump where it goes into the engine blew out. no hyd. hyd. getting in to the engine oil. I sent for a new pump, which btw is much improved. for about $125.00 not bad. that cured all my problems. Steve

MY 254 pump crapped out only after 20 hrs of light use, amoungst other things........
Local dealer replaced it under warranty and is still good after 110 hrs.
