Very tempting and I don't even know why. I need another tractor like ahole in the head, much less an old beater.

Good one George ! Well Ive got 3 tractors so far and lookin for more  My home in Ct is on 1 acre and the Vt property is only 10 acres, why on earth I would want another tractor to restore or work on is beyond me ! ;) :)

BTW, It just kind of gets in your blood !

George you might want to look at a little wider set of the disc, I have pulled a set of 8 footers behind my L4400 without problems. I found a used set of 6 footers that are as heavy as the 8 footer that I had borrowed for $200 or I would have gotten a bigger set.

Are you just wanting a new set . I have two or three sets I would sale .They need a little work but not much. You would not even know you spend any money.

Gizmo, PM me with some specifics and pics (if you have them). I'm in Rock Hill. I don't remember where you are in SC.

Blake, my only concern about the 8 footer is that some of my plots are very small. The Kubota rep (who also can order the Leinbachstuff) also mentioned that the L4400 could pull an 8 footer as well.

I'm also a little concerned about my 'dirt'. This stuff is just terrible. Concrete when dry. Sticky, nasty clay when wet. Fairly manageable when juuuust right, but still dense and chunky. (Totally depleted from cotton growing in the early 1900's.)

I brought in a big set of offset harrows about 10,000lbs with a 150 hp New Holland and did most of my ground work last year. I have alot of pine rows that took something big to knock them down. Now I have bought the 6 footers and am preparing for grass seed. You will be alright with 6 foot but if I was buying new I would get the biggest my tractor could pull and the one that worked best for my needs.

will take 150$ for them . They need a little work . I Have been going to rebuilt them and paint them just have not had time.

It's called Tractoritis, and there is no known cure. :)

Gizmo, that disk looks like a good one, adjustable gangs, ability to fold the rear gangs adding instant weight to the ft. gangs for better soil breakage and the top link will move to allow the rear gangs to follow the terrain....very nice indeed.

L4400, this disk is a good one.

FWJ--That's one nice-looking MF #25 you've got there. Don't forget, I'm in the market for one of those. A 7 1/2 footer. I really like the way you adjust the disc angle on those. I don't know why no one else has come up with a similar set-up. If you hear of one around please let me know. Or if you want to let me "borrow" yours I'd be happy to look after it.

I'll keep my eyes and ears open! I'm also shopping for another disc. A friend wants a Ford 3-pointer, one with the floating hitch. Either 6' or 7'-6".

Gizmo, I might be interested. How wide is the one in the picture? Where in SC are you?

Farmwithjunk, looking at that those pics, what type of work would need to go into such a set to get it working (I'm not too concerned about cosmetics)? Will the bearings be shot? Can you find replacements, etc.? Any help appreciated.

Look for a disc without any breaks in the frame or obvious welded "repairs". 3-point disc's suffer the most abuse when you attempt to turn the tractor with the disc still in the dirt. That is rough on frames. Also discing over very "irregular" ground will twist the frames.

Bearings can be replaced. If they're "boxings" instead of roller bearings, you can get along just fine with some wear in the bearings. (That's why they've stayed popular all these years.) They are also easy to replace if needed. Agri-Supply sells "generic" boxings through their online catalog. They fit 99% of all disc's using boxings.

Make certain the AXLES have been kept tight. If not, the disc can wallow around and start cutting into the axle, as well as loose disc blades tend to break easier.

Disc blades are easy to replace too. Just remember, you're looking at $12 to $15 each, maybe more if shipping is involved. They add up quick.

There's still a bunch of these old disc's around. Massey Ferguson and Ford stuck with the small tractor market when everyone else was trying to win the horsepower wars of the 60's and 70's. MF and Ford also kept a nice line of implements for their utility tractor line. The MF #25 and the Ford "flex hitch" disc are still the 2 best designs EVER for a lift disc. They do a great job, and the somewhat flexible manner in which they're built allows them to survive hard use.

I paid $475 for my disc and a 2-row cultivator. (I figure the cult. was worth $150) It was in working condition when I bought it. I used it to disc 18 acres just a few days after I got it. There's $125(+) invested in new disc blades. I'd match it head to head against anything comparable on the market for performance and durability.

I live in Donalds SC

That's over near Due West. I'm pretty sure you can't get there from here.:D

It is probably a little far, but we might be heading over to look at Erskine College in the future and if I haven't found a disc yet I will definitely give you a call ahead of time.
