Just picked up a leinbach 7200Jr PHD this morning and I can't connect the PTO shaft to the tractor. This is only the 2nd rear PTO attachment I have, but my mackissics chipper attaches and works fine. The connection for the tractor was pretty rusty and painted, but I scraped and brushed most of that out, and still no luck..I even tried grease, 'light' tapping with a hammer (sledge;) ) and no luck. Does anyone know if a Leinbach 7200jr is not supposed to fit a JD 2305??? I've read on here that other people are using them, and hopefully I just need to clean the connection on the shaft some more.

also, I did attach the shaft from the chipper to the tractor after the PHD wouldn't work. So back to cleaning the connection.

here is a pic of the two pto connections. The one on the left is the from the chipper, and the one on the right is the PHD. I've called both leinbach and the store I bought this from and they are both closed.

I'd grab a set of calipers and measure the two. Actually the one that fits LOOKS small than the PHD one. But the teeth do look wider on the PHD.

I'd measured them at first and they seemed the same and I double checked and they still seem the same. The splines 'may' be a bit bigger on the new connector, but with the angles, it was hard to measure them.

I did notice that the teeth (ridges inside the connector) on the connector that fits are slanted a lot more at the opening than the new one.

Do they make different size connectors that are this similar in size? I could see having a bigger one on a much larger tractor, but not this close in size. I've scraped and filed the crap out of the thing, and the only thing I haven't done is filed down the ends of the teeth so it looks like the one that fits. Oh well, the dealer opens tomorrow at 0800 and he should have a few msg's on his machine already!!!

I think for most implements designed to run at 540 rpm, the PTO shaft size and splines should be standard.

I borrowed a spreader this weekend and one end to the PTO shaft that came with it was a super tight fit either on the spreader or the tractor. With grease, wd-40 and some tapping with a hammer it finally went on. I suspect that it was just a piece of junk rather that the wrong 'type'.

I called both Leinbach and the dealer today and they both said pretty much the same thing about it fitting after cleaning and applying grease. But they 'also' both offered to replace it, so I'm heading down there tomorrow to swap it out. I'm taking my other drive shaft to compare it to the new one just to make sure I don't go through this again. I swear the teeth are bigger on the new one, but I guess I'll find out tomorow

Sounds like you have a good dealer.

I bet somewhere on that PTO shaft it says 'Made in China'.

Uh, did you push back the locking pin in the post hole coupler while putting it on? It's spring loaded and has to be held in.

OUCH!! TomC that hurt:eek: , just kidding, I beat the crap out of that pin to get it to move the first time.

I drove down to the dealer today and tried to fit my drive shaft on a kabuto compact tractor and it wouldn't fit, so I tried the PHD drive shaft and it didn't fit either. I tried on a larger tractor and they both fit fine. I went in and told a salesman and he started laughing. Two of the salesman came out and were able to fit my shaft on the compact Kabuto but couldn't fit their's on it. They then tried it on a much larger model tractor and it went on fine. They were nice about it though and admitted that the drive shaft probably had a defect on the connector and gave me a new one. They were very helpful, and I plan on doing business with them in the future.

anyway, I HAD to try it out tonight, so here are a few photos

Happy to hear that you got the problem resolved. I've been using my 7200 today. Dug 70 holes to plant tree seedlings. No problems! Last year, I ripped several trenchs with a subsoiler for the same purpose. Overall, the phd took more time, but I got a much better planting hole. Now, if mother nature will cooperate and provide the required watering when needed.....;-)

I had a similar problem with a Leinbach PHD that a friend let us borrow this past weekend. The PHD is brand new, never used, **** I had to cut the packing wire off of it and fill it with oil. . Anyway we go to hook it up to our jd 4610 and it wont slide on. IT just seems to rub on the outside. Measured it, it measured the same. However it would fit on my Yanmar 155d, probably cause its a 30 year old tractor with more wear on the pto shaft so we were able to do what we needed done. The driveline on the PHD was made in Spain if I remember right.

Yeh, mine did the same thing with just rubbing on the outside and wouldn't budge. The 2nd one I got (which I wouldn't exactly call 'new') fit fine after a little cleaning and I've taken it off and on several times now over the past month. I'm putting in a wood fence and sinking 8' x 7" 1/2 rounds, 3' in the ground and this thing works great!! I did break the sheer pin on the first practice hole, but that is why I did a practice hole. We tried to go too deep at first and all I can say is thank God for sheer pins!!! I've even mastered doing it solo, and as long as I continue to take it slow it works great!
