Left turn on 2 lane. Stay in R/H lane or L/H to let cars continue on?

Never pass a turning car on a single lane road.

the first car pulls into the driveway and the second car accelerates straight ahead and now i'm on the shoulder or whatever wondering WTF.

My E Tennessee buddy said that's common, the second person was just telling me the first person was turning left.

Thats messed up. If you signal, its because YOU are turning only. No false signaling, that does not help anyone.

Along this vein, a lot of our rural intersections around here have an extra wide, paved shoulder at places were people commonly turn left. The obvious reason for this is to allow folks to get around the slowing or stopped left-turning by passing on the right. But So, SO MANY people just drizzle down to a stop behind the left turner, even if they intend to continue straight themselves. I am not willing to waste my time or gas like this for no reason, so I always pass on the right when I can. But sometimes that means that as the front person turns left, I am now drag racing the dingus who decided to stop behind them for no reason (they were probably on their phone, or otherwise distracted).

here's a good one. i've only seen this done in the mountains of E Tennessee and surrounding areas.

you are third in line on a country hwy/road. 55 mph

the first person signals to make a left turn and begins to slow down.

the SECOND person signals to make a left turn and of course now all three are slowing down, no problem.

i see the 2 folks in front of me turning left into a rural drive way.....they must be following each other?

i gently pull around the right to carefully pass them and......

yeah that second left signal is messed up
If there's a slowdown in front of me and I'm concerned about rear visibility, I hit the hazards and keep a bit of distance from the front to avoid accordion-style crashes; hitting a left turn signal instead gives the wrong information and while you're not supposed to pass a turning vehicle we know how every second counts.

I think he meant passing on the right, to get around the left-turner.
I know that's what he meant. You shouldn't do it on a single lane road.

Stop in your lane until ALL traffic in ALL directions is also stopped.
Then and ONLY then is it safe to make your turn.... unless an airplane falls out of the sky in front of you.
Being courteous is for suckers, make them STOP.

Except the truck behind my in-laws did not stop and messed them up.

I’ve seen that, not good.

In MD they have the right shoulder marker in areas to allow you to pass left turning vehicles. The problem is some people don’t use them, they slow behind the turning vehicle, you go to pass on the right in a marked lane, the car turns, the next car goes straight as you are legally passing on the right.

Well, I mean, sure, you shouldn't go driving through someone's front yard to get around someone. But if there's paved space to get around someone turning left, I say use it. Like I said, a ton of our local intersections (especially the "T" intersections) have additional pavement added specifically for this purpose, so it must not be illegal.

Maybe it’s a local thing. As said I use “A” when I know it’s safe. I see it more of a courtesy issue and it’s pretty common around here.

Next scenario. If you’re going down a rural two lane road and meet an oncoming tractor with a 24’ implement, a combine or cotton picker, what do you do?
Pull as far right as I can if if he still needs clearance pull into the ditch. I cut truck drivers and people moving machinery a LOT of slack. I grew up on a farm so...

I also hug the center line when I stop to make a left, encouraging people to pass on the right. Holy Crap!! I am public enemy #1!
I am a firm believer that unobstructed and constant flow is the safest way. Just kills me that some of the posts ENJOY pizzing people off, to what? Teach them a lesson? Grow up!
