ford 555
Hi There
I have owned a Ford 555A for about 7 years, in which time it has always crank over slowly. It has been sitting for about 2 months with out starting, the problem now it turns over very slowly and won稚 fire up. I have tried a few things but to no avail. Removed existing starter and replaced with brand new starter. Removed battery, connected jump leads straight to starter, earthing out the starter, straight to the starter. Still turns over slowly. Removed fuel injectors turns over, but not that fast, replaced injectors, hardly turns over. Removed front hydraulic pump, still hardly turns over. Connect two batteries in series straight to the starter, still hardly turns over with good cranking amps and cranking volts at 10.3. Gearbox痴 is in neutral. And still hardly cranking, running out of ideas now, has anyone got any. Will be much appreciated.
Thanks Grom

As I'm reading this not familiar with your tractor. but if 6-volt system and have 2 batteries in series it should spin like a scalded dog.
you mention that voltage drops to 10.3 so wondering if maybe clutch is not releasing the transmission and so instead just flywheel also the gears in the transmission even if in neutral still a drag. now if 12-volt system low voltage batteries or there is most likely a ground problem. or too small of cables. does the cables get over warm when trying to start?
Some times taking to repair shop will locate the reason why you are having a problem.

Try two batteries in parallel. A good set of jumper cables off a truck should do.

My 575E is sluggish but starts all summer. In winter I have to jump it. Starter, alternator and all cables are new. My tractor could be bought with a double battery option but mine doesn't have it. I keep thinking I will make a bracket and fit a second battery in to increase cranking amps.

I ran into that problem with my old 1960 Ford Dexta. The old gentleman I bought if from disclosed that he had always had that problem with it. I soon discovered that it was a 12 volt system - not a 6 volt. Switched the battery to a 12V and problem solved.

...just a thought, check everything in the system.

Hi there
Thanks for the replies, I done a naughty, I put the old starter back in and put 24 volts straight to the starter. Started straight up, I did that on a old car back in the eighties but I would say it’s a last resort. But a lest she’s running.
