Rake Landscape rake size help

I purchased a 7' light duty York rake to pull behind my old Ford 8N. The Kubota 3000DT I bought later on pulls the 7' rake without a problem.

As far as the little extra width goes behind the Kubota I find more positives than negitives. When angled I do not have get as close to the ditch as I would if it were a 6' rake when grooming the drive.

Bob, I'll second everyone elses recommendations for a 6 foot or wider rake with one additional reason. The six footer will cover your tracks while angled but it will also cover your tracks when you turn. Since the rake hangs so far off the back, it doesn't track directly behind the tractor when turning. I used my 6 foot King Kutter behind my 5 foot 790 quite extensively last weekend and it was nice to be able to make turns with the rake down and have it smooth the tracks all out /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Another way to look at it. Common practice is to buy a rake 12" wider than the blade. This allows you to spread those ridges at the ends of your blade in the same number of passes as the final grade with the blade.

Thanks for all the great input. The 6Ft. rake now feels like the right purchase. I will start to review the various manufactures and to be sure, the brands you good folks have mentioned in your posts. Thanks again!

A friend of mine priced a Befco Rake 6' Rake and it came to about 475.00. With wheels it was about 775.00. That seems a little high but I would definitly go with the wheels on the rake. They work great on my Leinbach.
