LandHope 220

I have a LandHope 220 with a popping noise in the rear end. No tire movement while in gear. If I place in 4WD front tire pull. Rear just pops. It started happening a while back but only in a heavy strain. I am ordering the closest Massey tractor service manuals I can find. Where to start. Could it be a axle bearing completely worn out? It's been such a good tractor. Even if I can't read the operating instructions, or controls, or the shift patterns, or the tach or anything else on it, I still like it.

Does it move with the differential lock on? If so, you probably have a broken brake pinion shaft. If not, probably a bad ring/pinion.
