Tiller Land Pride RTA 1050 Tiller Question

A friend can get a reaL good deal on a 50" LP tiller (50" tilling width). Its used but "like new" - and it really is. My problem is that I have a Kubota L3010 which is around 30 engine HP. The Land Pride catalog specs lists this tiller as having a gearbox rated for only 25 engine HP. My question is - are these gearbox ratings conservative or will the gear box blow up the first time I hitch up the PTO to my tractor??
BTW, I'm only doing a couple of gardens and a few food plots with a tiller. A few days of use at most each year. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

Natty,

Generally when a manufacture gives a gearbox horsepower rating they will be referring to PTO horsepower. If I remember correctly the L3010 is a 24 or 25 PTO horsepower tractor so I think you will be fine for the uses you describe. Land Pride makes good equipment so if you can get a deal I would go for it.

I would think that's about the perfect tiller for your machine. I have a JD 2210. The engine is 23 hp and 17 at the PTO. I use a Frontier RT1250 49" tiller. Most manufactures have a pretty broad range or a minimum and a maximum HP rateing. On my tiller the max is 40 hp and the min. is 15-30 hp. It works like a dream on a couple of acres of wildlife food plots and small garde. Dave

Thanks guys. Any other reports on LandPride tillers out there??
Also is it necessary that a 3-pt tiller be as wide as the tractor tire width??

In my opinion, it is certainly preferable, but it is not necessary. Many of the tillers can be offset to cover your tracks on one side. I used a 40" tiller on a B2710 (54" outside tire width) by offsetting the tiller to cover my right track.
