Hi,

Every year around this time our house becomes a magnet for lady bugs and I can't seem to find much info on how to get rid of them. Our current method is sucking them up with a handheld Vacuum but 10 minutes later is seems like you never sucked any up, lol. So, has anyone here ever found a soultion to deal with the bugs permanantly?

The ones that come around here seem "aggressive". My wife says the "bite". I think I have felt them take a nibble on my neck. Someone says they are Japanese Lady Bugs.. They do help in the garden.

My wife just vacuums them up. Keeps her happy and busy.

They are not the gardners best friend when inside the house! I am talking over a hundred or more a day get sucked up in the vacuum and these ones do bite. The bites not bad, just annoying and they have an odor to them, especially if you smash one, lol. They are just a total annoyance and I want them gone, lol!

They are not true ladybugs. They do bite (or nibble, perhaps more correcty) and stink bad when crushed. They are spawned in h-e-double hockey sticks.

HERE

They can gather in and around a home by the hundreds and thousands as it gets cooler. I just sprayed the crawlspace, bottom band and eaves yesterday with Bifen for the fall....it helps prevent insects from entering the house to overwinter.

Bifen is a residual spray. It kills, but is not a knockdown spray. It helps keep down the entire insect population. Virtually no spiders in here through winter. We use glue traps around baseboards and window sills for the few strays that survive the spray. Since beginning a fall spray routine a few years ago we have virtually no problem with overwintering insects in the house.

Those little critters were swarming outside my house today. You would have thought my white house was white with red pokadots today. :) Guess my house is prety bug secure though as I rarely ever see them inside.

I've noticed a large increase in lady bugs during the past 5-6 years. I came home today after work to find my house covered in lady bugs. They were swarming around everywhere. I've heard that Virginia Tech released lady bugs several years ago to control the locust population. I do not know if this is true or not, but I only live about 20 miles from the campus and campus farms. I have literaly vacumed a couple pounds of the darn things with the shop vac. I just had the house sprayed two weeks ago and it hasn't helped.

I was priming 4 X 8 sheets of plywood yesterday that will be used in a new shop we're opening next month. Anyway as I would paint a panel in the pole barn it would then be carried out and set on the grass to dry in the sun. After I did about 16 panels, I noticed that the panels looked like there were lots of spots that were missed with the white primer. After a closer inspection I found out that it was a lot of stuck ladybugs. :(

Maybe I should just paint over them with the finish coat, who knows it just might start some kind of a new fad. Lady-bug bump paneling.........

I posed the same question last year and was told they were lady asian beetles as mine weren't the bright red but a redish orange. They are actually good to have around as they feed on lots of the harmful bugs. Farmers love them. They cause no damage other than cleaning them up. They will take a bite of you though. I'll try to find that post.

It was back up in the 70's in Western Pa yesterday and when I got home it was like a swarm had arrived, lol!!! By the time I walked from my car to the house I was literally covered in lady bugs! We started vacuuming them up inside the house and stopped counting at a thousand! They were everywhere!!! The problem with sealing up the house is our soffit has the vented holes and I imagine they just crawl right in there and then go through the house from there. I haven't tried any sprays to see if that deters them from coming in yet.

Same thing happened at our place yesterday, it was pretty warm, and they swarmed the house. Ran to TSC and picked up a bottle of "Mosquito Beater" by Bonide, it's in a spray bottle ready to attach to a garden hose. It's active ingredient is 2.5% Permethrin, and it really knocked them down. When I came home today they were covering my porch, driveway, sidewalk, etc. This stuff is a contact and residual spray. This was the only thing I found that seemed to address asian ladybugs. We'll see what the residual effect is, but so far I'm very pleased with it.

They showed up here yesterday. I quickly sprayed the house on the outside all around the windows and doors. and then vaccumed up about 50 inside last night. but none are to be seen today :)
I was killing those things all winter last year.
Mine are the yellow asian ones. And yes they bite and taste bad when they land in your food.
