The L5240 has a deep channel for the PTO shaft, running fore and aft, through the engine oil sump forming what seems to be two sumps. There are drain bolts on each side. It appears that the drain bolt on each side must be removed and each side drained.

Because of the snow blower mount below the sump(s), and the need to make up an oil diverter, only one drain bolt at a time may be removed.

Do both bolts need to be removed?

if you don't, you will leave almost 2 quarts behind. Not ideal, but also not a total disaster, assuming you do regular oil changes. KennyV

One at a time is fine. Do both. Don't leave old oil in one side.....

The shaft dividing the oil pan is the front axle drive shaft. PTO shaft exits the rear of the tractor.
