HELP, just traveling back through the woods to do a little backhoe work and my L5030 died and won't start back up (or even turn over). No wierd noises or anything that makes me think something is wrong, just died. The mid-pto icon on the Intellipanel is lit up the only problem is, I don't have a mid-pto. It also show HST Neutral on the display panel. Doesn't help moving the HST lever from L,N,M,N,H. I have tried disconnecting the battery neutral lead and reattaching hoping to reset the computer, but no change. Looked around under it an no sticks or anything else jamming anything that I can see. Help, my baby is sitting in the woods with no way to get it out.....

I'd be looking for a snagged wire. Is there a safety switch for the seat?

You can usually move a diesel powered machine, assuming nothing major has failed.
The fuel shut off can normally be blocked to the run position. The starter can be engaged directly at the starter. This should allow you to start and move it to a place you can check more thoroughly.
Before starting and operating this way check that everything is in running order. Like all fluids are ok Have someone at the controls who can keep it under control.
But most important be able to unblock the fuel solenoid to shut the engine down if you need to?
You may have something simple like a bad battery connection or a faulty main power fuse that is not allowing adequate current to for the starter to engage
This should get you out of the woods. KennyV.

Sounds like a plug has been pulled off or shorted.

Something has triggered the safety circuits it would seem.

Were you operating in an area with alot of water or through dense brush?

I would think 'water' would suggest shorting somewhere.
I would think 'dense brush' would suggest a plug being pulled or wire broken.
It could be a combo of both or maybe something more severe in the electronics :(

Good luck

Thanks for the answers, am on a grass trail, not going through brush or water (except small mudpuddle that didn't splash) I'm assuming its a false reading seeing that's its referencing a mid-pto that I don't have. Anyone know if there is an easy way to bypass the safety switches or where to check for the mid-pto sensor and at least get it to the garage?

You can get it going by following KennyV's advice above. The safety switches just cut power to the fuel pump solenoid. The fuel solenoid is on or near the diesel pump (upper right front of engine) - you can unblock or disconnect the linkage so the pump is enabled without the solenoid being energized. Then, with the machine in neutral, use a large screwdriver to short the starter solenoid terminal to the big center terminal - the starter will engage. Good luck. Dick B

The safety switches do not cut power to the fuel solenoid. The Pto, seat, pedal ,clutch switches work together to run the Operator Presence Control System and also have a second circuit in the switches for the starting. The OPC relay is energized by a quick closure in the seat circuit that then energizes the fuel cutoff solenoid to shut the tractor down. Now if you cannot get it to crank either I would be checking all the fuses in the front by the battery and under the dash. I am thinking that since the mid PTO sensor light is showing up and it is tied to the seat switch circuit that you start by the rear seat and follow the wires under the floor pan and up to the Intellipanel for breaks or shorts. If you need the schematic for the HST model I have the WSM and could scan it in.

Thanks again guys for the suggestions. Went out yesterday morning and found someone had unlocked then lowered my front bucket and one of my backhoe stabilizers so now I can't even get it towed out to somewhere that I could get a truck to it. The inlaws were visiting and I got a couple of sheepish looks when I started ranting about that but no one owned up to it.

Mid-PTO warning light still lit and there is power to everything, but engine will not turn over. Stopped by the dealer this morning and they did not have a lot of insight into the problem. They did give me a couple factory jumpers for the safety switches so I guess I'll have to start tearing it down to get to the wiring harness and jumping the safeties one by one until I get to the one that lets it turn over. Now if it would only stop raining.

Digger,

The factory jumpers are for the GST transmission to limp home - they don't work on a GL30 hydro

Run a hot lead to the solenoid on the injection pump so you have fuel delivery to the pump. Cross the big battery terminal "B" to the start "S" terminal on the starter solenoid - be sure it is out of gear (range transmission) and you are in the seat when doing this. It should crank and run if you have fuel and nothing else is wrong. Take the hot wire off the pump solenoid to kill the engine.

If it does not start then but cranks with white smoke, you have a fuel delivery problem - filter, pinched line, etc.

If it won't crank at all, then you have other electrical issues - battery or starter motor.

By the way, you can raise the stabilizer with a dead engine by holding the lever to raise and pick up on the stabilizer pad. You would need some help or a bungee cord to hold the lever if working alone - maybe get one of the "sheepish looks" to do the lifting while you hold the lever, so you can tow it back to the shop for repair.

The boom can be raised with a jack while pulling back on the loader handle - don't you have a good neighbor with a loader tractor to help out.

Good luck - I think it will be something easy once you have time to sort it out.

I had a similar problem - it was a lose safety switch connection in the seat. Took about 5 minutes to fix - you could start by jumping out that circuit and seeing what happens.

Sounds like the tractors thinking you are trying to start it while the pto is on. Have you tried to start with the seat pushed forward?
