Gents,
I went shopping for an L3301. But I found that the L4701 actually may be within reach. More power, more substantial tires, ability to handle a 72' vs 60' loader/box scraper/shredder---it seems like it is worth it to figure out a way to make the $7-8,000 leap. Any thoughts? Thanks much
Weight defines what a tractor will do. Bigger is better if you can support the logistics (towing, if needed) & can deal with the decreased manuverability.
My L3200 (almost exactly the same as the L3301) pulls a 72" box blade ok, a 4000 series would pull it better though.
I'm happy with my L3200, but looking to replace it with a cabbed grand. Debating between an underpowered L3560, or the slightly bigger L4060 or L4760. I like the 3000 series for manuverability, but the 4000s will do a bit more work with the extra weight.

I went through the same decision process recently. For what I would be doing, I concluded the 4701 would do it all easier, faster, and safer. The 3301 or 3901 would get it done, however I didn't want to have regrets or be considering trading up in a couple of years. The only advantage of the 3301/3901 is the more compact size if you have really tight spaces or need a lighter tractor. But looking at the specs between those models and the 4701, the width/length and turning radius are pretty close leading me to conclude that the 4701 is the perfect middle ground--still compact, but with a lot more power, stability, and capability. Also, look at the upgrades that come standard on the 4701--telescoping 3 point, dual brakes on left side, cruise control, upgraded HST transmission. Those were significant in my purchasing decision. The 0% Kubota financing kept the larger Kubota within reach for me. I see it as a long term investment. No regrets here.
Awesome summary Desh, thank you! I have a five year old 60" King Cutter shredder, I could save a bit of money just getting the loader and box scraper with the L4701, but a new 72" shredder sure would be nice!
It's nice on the budget using an existing 5' cutter, but my new Landpride 6' cutter sure helps the work get done a lot faster! I feel 6' is the perfect size for the 4701. Good luck with your decision.
I priced out an L4600 (predecessor to the 4701). The MX that I bought was actually cheaper. It's got a hair more HP, a little bigger frame, and a stronger loader. Just something to consider.

Just going to say check out an MX series. Way more tractor. I have both, so I can tell you from experience. L3301 is a great smaller tractor, but the MX is a beast.
