Kubota L4610 HST with loader
WELL the dealer show up this evening with the L4610 HYD leak and all. I had them put on 2 remotes and got the leak free, he drove 65 miles to deliver got here and tunred around and went back. What a bummer for both of us. Oh well he'll be back on WEN. now. This is after he got sick on mon. and didn't come. Such is life.
Tires, I called Kubota today and talked to their service manager about the Michelin XM27 tires and gave him all of the #s, he called back and told me that it looked good and the fronts and rear tires had a lead of 2.28 which was within there recomned spec. sooooo onward and up ward. Also got a part # from OTR for the 16" wheel needed for the front tires. It turns out that they are going to offer this size in their line now, not just special order, good news./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
4in1 bucket, Call long and talked with one of the owners about the ele. valve vers. a manule valve. He said that they dont" even offer the 4in1 with a manule valve any more because there is no call for it and that they have had no trouble with the ele. valve!!!! I don't know what to think now????? I know Rat talked to Carver about this and he nothing good to say about the ele. valve. Anyone out there had any more input on this??? I sure like to here from all you 4in1 owners out their so we can get to the bottom of this, if thats posable. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It'll be interesting to see what you find out about the electric valve. I had to re-engineer the whole thing myself. And the L4610 has higher hydraulic flow, which would make the problem worse.

You're gonna like those tires.

I went down to lower Mich. [where all the trolls live] over the weekend and stoped at a place that had the rear ones in stock and I could not belive it. You sure they will fit ??? I sure hope so IM going to send them my $$ for the wheels and go order the tires. How long befor they get your wheel isue taken care of??? Did you ever call long and talk to them?? What did they say???

Well, they fit on my L4310HST, so I don't see why they shouldn't fit on your L4610. Be prepared for lots of questions about them. A couple of inches wider and a couple of inches taller make for a major difference, both in appearance and in performance.

I'm supposed to get the right front wheels in a couple weeks. The ones I've got now are ok in the meantime, though.

I've talked to Long a bunch of times, but not recently. The last time I talked to them they hadn't figured out how to resolve the regenerative dump circuit problem, so I went my own way and fixed it myself. I wasn't willing to give up the electric switch, though. That thing is slick, once you get it working. That's why I'm wondering what they ended up doing, though.

I think I printed out some of your post on the trouble that you had, maybe I will fax them to Long and see what they say. The main thing is you got it to work!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif And IM sure that with all the resoures here and the dealer I will be able to over come any problum that comes up, and that button does sound slick, very slick!!! So what I here you saying is the tires are mounted and on the tractor now, but you will hae to swap wheels when you get the others??

Yes I know but I was ALL ready to gooooooo and he let out all my air.oh well Hey something more productive, I know that you have said that you skid wood for people, how did you get started and figer out what to charge them? Do you make your own roads? Pile the brush?? I think you know where IM going with this. ALL they have up here in the UP is BIG stuff and you drive it through the woods you get nice BIG ruts, you know bug ponds/streams. Some folks won't let that big stuff on their land. I trying to figer out how to market the service?? Any ideas?

Yes, I've had the rears on for a few months, and the fronts for a couple weeks, but I can't turn the front wheels as far as they will go because the wheels have too much offset and they hit the loader mounts. When the new wheels come, with the right offset, I'll just have the tires remounted on them.

Its a niche that needs to be filled. I started out clearing out the junk wood and skidding it out then cutting it up for firewood and make money at both ends of the stick. But there are a couple of things you have to realize your tractor will get scrached and dented!!! You will also need a winch of some sort or you will be in for some very long days. There are a few areas to focus on smaller plots the compaction issues and the cleanup.

It's not profitable for alot of larger companies to do the smaller plots nor do they want to mess with any thinning or silvaculture in this area. I'm lucky there quite a few small sawmills in this area and they don't mind dealing with the smaller quanities that I do. It's like anything if you show the people you care they will tell other people.
I also do cleanup after the big boys get done logging, man do they waste alot of marketable timber, but some of them don't want to deal with the small mills and the big mills won't take the small stuff.
It's a shame many people don't realize what a mess they leave until it's to late they just see the $$$$ on the form contract and sign it.
Making roads around here is very easy it's flatland no mountians to deal with just mud! Walk the land first and mark your trail so you can use the winch to pull the logs on to your trail but reguardless try to have one main trail and fingers branching off of it.
Now as far as charging goes I do it by the hour and also will do a percentage split. You must be very careful with this if you go for the split to cover your cleanup time as well. Some people will get put off by my rate per hour but you have to show them their return and then they understand.
Another thing to consider is how will you get the logs to market truck and trailer yourself or will the mill do it and if so at what price or can you use a private hauler. It can be as simple or as complacated as you make it.
Will you be dropping the trees as well or do you want to just skid and thats it? This post is getting long and its late I'm starting to babble./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

In Washington and probably elsewhere, the trick is to be a logging company. It requires a phone, maybe a chair, a truck. You visit with the small woodlot owner, tell him all about how it's going to look like a park etc when you are done, then hire bozo subcontractors who in turn hire beer drinking fools to actually cut the trees down. Were there buffer zones set up? Neighbors property lines? The actual cutters don't know or care. Result, the intial guy is off the hook, go sue his subcontractors which own nothing but their worn out shoes and dirty clothes. I've seen this over and over again with neighbors. The most recent, which bordered my own property was the best, huge amounts of slash to sit in the hot sun. Workers sat around drinking while their D4 with a rake on it sat. The used it about 20 minutes so they could get their trucks out and get some firewood. (this was supposed to be like a park). I got the fun task of pushing a bunch of the crap inward after they left so I had a firebreak. I was considering trying to get their cat started and learning to use it when they were gone for the day, I didn't because I couldn't believe they were actually going to leave the place like that. Now I wish I had.

Was nice I had the big ass Ford 1710 here to make a firebreak. They came back week or two later with their pickup trucks to get more firewood for themselves. "Someone" /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif had dug a big ditch across the access road. Other neighbor said they stood around drinking and cussing, then left, never came back. Bad Ford...Bad

Boy a 4610 with a 4 in 1 would have been GREAT with that slash!
