L4600 Delivered Yesterday!!!

Well since everyone likes to see the same tractors that are on the lot, off the lot here it is!





I had my dad come over to the farm (well we are trying to clean up and restart a farm that the previous owners let go") and I put about 5 hours on the new one, and he put about 8 on the BX (He loves that thing!).

We dug out a 16x10x6 foot hole, I started clearing out some smaller trees, and we cleaned up a huge burn pile as well as random hunks of rock and cinder blocks that were scattered around the property.

I just checked this tractor out at a local Kubota dealer. It is super. Price of $26500 after rebate was a little rich for my blood. Just bought the wife a 2014 Forester for the same money. Seems tractors should be half the price of a car even though they weigh the same. Then again, ever see those little "OsKosh" jeans for little kids. The thing fits on my fore arm but costs as much as the adult version. Someone or the other is nuts and the other is taking advantage of the insanity. Great tractor and congratulations.

I was wondering how you are doing with your new L4600. I am looking at one now for 35.5 with a hoe. I wanted to wait but the preTier diesels without Def filtrs are becoming scarce. Do you have any issues so far? Have you put some on some hours. It looks real nice Best of luck to you

Sorry for the slow reply. I have been quite busy around here. I only put about 15 hours on the tractor so far, and have not had any problems as of yet, other than a leaky line on the FEL. That was a quick fix with a crescent wrench. I have mowed all the fields, dug a big hole with the FEL and the help of the BX, and have done a lot of moving stuff around. Next will be grading off a area for the barn.

In short no problems, but I will say that it has "quirks"
High gear is useless. It just bogs the tractor down, what a bummer for road use between my driveways. (maybe due to filled rears?)
I can still bog out the engine when brush hogging up a steep incline.
It gulps diesel, i am on my third tank in 15 hours.
Brakes are a LOT stiffer than on the BX, not used to that.
HST is noisy.

I'll be glad to answer any other questions, or take more pics of specific parts if anyone is interested.

Can't help much with the high gear issue as I only use high for road travel, it's too fast for my terrain otherwise.

How many gallons is the fuel tank and how many gallons have you added in those 15 hours? My 5240 seems to average about .7 gal per hour doing front loader work, finish mower, brush hog, backhoe work, etc.

I've heard others comment on hst "whine", don't seem to notice it on mine but my hearing isn't so great either.

The tank is 12.7 Gallons I believe, I have put 15 gallons in it so far and I believe I am at 1/2 tank right now.
High gear is also way to fast for my terrain and I have only tried it when taking the tractor down the road to get to one of the other driveways.

I swing the bh boom off to the side and curl the fel bucket under, saves about 3 feet.

Thanks for the info. Iwas thinking I could remove loader bucket also although I would like to leave it on? I can't find one with a hoe that could measure. I was hoping someone out there could.

Not sure I follow you. Are you looking at one of my dogs?

I am very happy with the 4600. The 5100 I believe is built on a heavier frame. What are you planning on doing with your tractor. I can let you know if I have or plan on doing the same things with mine. I will say that I can shoe horn both my bx25 and the 4600 in my basement that is about 30 feet long. Given that I have the backhoe on the bx to the side and the fel of the 4600 resting on the loader arms of the bx.

I would immagine that if you put the lock pins in the loader like I do so the backhoe doesn't collapse down due to hydraulic bleed of you may be ok.

The 4600 is just under 10 foot I think without fel.

Sorry no on the dogs but they look like nice pups. I have a Yellow Lab myself
I was planning on building stone walls , stairs pulling stumps , planting tress and snow removal. I wanted to have a tractor that I could operate for years to come when I have more acreage. I wanted to get a large tractor that would be able to handle this. As I mentioned I'm try to stuff this in a garage. The opening initially is about 71/2 ft but after you clear the door the ceiling in the garage is about 10 ft. I have about 181/2 ft of depth to work with. So I don't know if I can manipulate the hoe to get it in the garage. Do you know the length of your 4600 with the FEL and the bucket flat?
