my tractor sometimes wont turn over when turning the key. in the past after playing around with the pto switch it would start . Thats not working now. the stupid glow light has never worked right. it stays on all the time. not sure if that could have something to do with it. could someone please help me with this? im getting ready to pour concrete in my barn with my tractor sitting in the middle of it

When you say won't start I believe your talking about won't crankover two different problems. need to check and see if battery is good and fully charged does hooking up a jumper battery help? without more info I would look at ignition switch. making sure tractor is in neutral and being extremely careful try and jump starter with key in run position. if you get it running at least you can move it. more info please.

yes it wont crank over. The battery is fully charged and a jump starter dosent work. how do I test the ignition switch?

switch usually has a wire that is hot all the time verify with volt meter or test light turn I position to right is run position dash and gagues should work next position is crank should have power on wire from switch to engage starter some switches have a heat position from the off position turn to left or ccw should have power to glow plugs or a relay its a lot easier to do than explain good luck.

Assuming the starter and solenoid are ok, you can start it by bypassing all the relays etc. FIRST BE SAFE - set the parking brake and put the trans in NEUTRAL. Connect one end of a jumper positive cable to the nut on the side of the starter where the big wire connects. Unplug the smaller wire on the starter. Turn the key to ON and touch the other end of the jumper cable to the spade terminal where the small wire was connected - it will pull in the solenoid which will run the starter. It may have to turn over a few turns to start if it's cold out - the glow plugs will not be helping. Don't get in the habit of starting it this way. May not work anyway as it gets colder out. Good luck.

I don't know about the non-starting issue, but you need a glow plug controller to solve the continuous "on" condition.

I burnt up a battery before researching here on TBN. It's pretty tight under the dash.
