OK-looks like I am in the home stretch..If the L3940 can take my hill it looks like I will go Orange 4 in a row. Is the following reasonable:

The following is paraphrase in close but not exact form and numbers I have just received. I want to follow the forum rules and also be nice to the potential dealer:

L3940 HST-1
ALR8869A
ALR6807

$24,000

LA724
LA2226
LA2235

$5,000

Dealer Discount ( $2,800)

R4 tires W/bio ballast

Total $26,200

I am waiting for two more quotes, but this seems pretty aggressive? If one of the dealers throws in a HD bucket he has a deal.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

That is right in line with what I paid last June for my L3940 with LA724 QA loader, standard 72" bucket & water-filled R4 tires. Oh except mine is the HST-3.

What is the difference in HSTs?

There are 3 or 4 minor differences, IIRC. One is that my seat swivels left & right a little. Can't remember the others.

I think an HST-1 prob means it's been on the dealer's lot for a while, if that matters to you.

The PTO is a knob you turn on the -3 while the older versions it's a lever. I think in 2009 the -3 came out. There's not many -2 models out there. I think there's some changes to the HST+ transmission as well. If you do a search there are a couple of threads on the changes. I didn't think there were any new -1 left.

Do you have any experience with the old style PTO lever and if so what were your impressions of the differences. I am old school and like the lever. We have the knob on our John Deere and it does not engage as smoothly as the lever on our Kubotas.

I'm no long-time experienced tractor owner, but I think my HST-3's PTO knob works great.

You turn it clock-wise on ... & tap the top of it to turn it off.

The lever will not wear out? I am sure the switch under the knob will.

man i must be getting old but $26250 for an L3940 is high.the full price on my MX5100 HST 4x4 ROPS w/LA844 loader with free front hay forks was $26000.an that was before i twisted their tail.that tractor should be lower priced then that.
