L3901 or L4701 - Deciding which based on transportability

Finally got the deal all together and thanks to the above user, he gave me a great lead to find one. The first dealer who had a great package and price sold them all literally in a few days after putting them up on the site. He said they went through 20 or so 4701s. Sheesh. At first the MX4800 was only 709 difference in MSRP for a 4x4 HST with a FEL and square bucket. I'd pay that just for the extra lift capacity. The problem is the rebates on the 4800 are 1750 less than the L series so it would have been 2500 more to get the 4800. So, I retreated to the L4701. I got each of the implements upgrated to a mid-tier or better...

Land Pride 1872 rotary with slipper clutch
Land Pride PD25 auguer (heavier duty unit)
Armstrong AG MBB72 (medium duty box blade with hinged rear blade - 605lbs is substantially heavier)

I'm in for 30,370 delivered. That's by far the best deal I could find. Other dealers nearby wouldn't match it much less beat it.

Once insurance is taken care of, I'll do the paperwork and hopefully have it in a week. Redneck Ferrari.

Congrats! I am so glad y'all could make a good deal for you.

Those guys over there seem to be really nice and on the ball. I would have gladly done business with them, but my local dealer is only 7 miles away from me and finally came to terms we can both agree on. Mine is scheduled for delivery on Friday.

Not only is this forum so very informative, but it is so nice to know we could actually help each other out in real life. Next, we can figure out our trailer in situations. LOL

You didn't stick up for them very well, no data proving me wrong, just your "ideas" and something about not affording a Kubota which was totally false. At least my "trashing Kubota" was factually based about the base Kubota L series and Mahindra 1500 series.

Great choice on the L4701. I have one and I really like it. I looked at it and the MX4800 but I just didn't like the MX series. I know that it has a higher FEL rating but I think you'll have plenty of power to do whatever you need. Have fun with the new machine!

Since I didn't take EVERYONE's advice here and buy enough tractor to begin with, I'm now back in the market. I'm cleaning up my JD955 and putting it up and I'm looking at a 3901 or 4701 Kubota. In the end, I want the 4701 and based on my 955 work over the last couple of year, should be more than enough for what I'm doing. That said, I will want to take this to the shop for maintenance once or twice a year. I don't want to buy a new truck/trailer.

I have an f150 supercrew with a max tow package. It's rated for around 9K but I sure as heck don't want to try. I've done about 6500 and that's the upper end of what I'd be interested in towing. My ranch to the Kubota dealer is all rural highway, multi-lane, and 30 miles away. I can easily get away with going 55-60 without causing undue traffic hazards.

My trailer is a tandem 3500 (7K max) that is what I'd call "light duty". I'll have to add a set of brakes as it's limited to 4500 in texas with aux brakes.

I believe the L4701 would run about 4300 with the FEL attached based on 3300 for the tractor (hst) and 1000 for the FEL (pure guess). Trailer is about 1500 so I'd be at 5800 total. While I wouldn't want to tow this regularly we're talking once or twice a year and I have done that kind of load (with brakes). It can still be a major pucker factor if some dumbarse pulls in front, though...

If that's going to burn up my truck, and I can't afford a 3/4, then a 3901 would be about 2800 and I figure about 800 on the FEL (smaller). That plus the 1500 on the trailer puts me at 5100. Not a huge difference but it would be quite noticeable.

Again my distance is only 30 miles and the only time I'd move the trailer is to the shop...

Please let me know your thoughts on the above... Need to decide over the next couple of weeks.

If the 700lbs is a deal breaker you may want to rethink this whole process. Pretty soon we'll be down to discussing hauling it with the fuel tank empty to save weight.
